    Over the last couple years I've occasionally posted a recipe on my website, but I'd always just done it as a plain text post, nothing fancy. Today I updated p3k to support a new post type, h-recipe. Now I can properly format and display recipes on my site!

  • Sorta Secret Aardvark Sauce (Habenero Hot Sauce) (forums.egullet.org)
    "Sorta Secret Aardvark Sauce
    1 – 14.5 oz can of diced tomatoes or roasted tomatoes chopped - include the juice
    1 – 14.5 oz can of rice wine vinegar
    1-1/2 cups of peeled and grated carrots (packed into the measuring cup)
    1 cup of finely diced white onion
    1/4 cup of yellow mustard
    1/3 cup of sugar
    2 teaspoons of Morton’s Kosher Salt
    1 teaspoon of black pepper
    13 small Habaneros – seeded and membranes removed. (This was 2 oz. of Habs before cutting off the tops and removing the seeds and membranes)
    2 teaspoons curry powder
    1 cup of water when cooking
    5 or 6 cloves of garlic - roasted if you've got it
    Put it all in the crockpot on high until everything is tender. About 3 hours
    Whirl in food processor – Don’t puree until smooth – make it lightly/finely chunky.
    Makes 3 pints - To can process pint jars in a water bath canner for 15 minutes"

  • Coffee Smoothie

    Ingredients

    • 4 oz cold brew coffee
    • 1 large banana
    • ~ 2/3 cup almond milk
    • ~ 1 tbsp honey
    • ~ 1 cup ice

    Instructions

    Add everything into the blender. I use a Nutribullet with the large cup. Fill to the fill line with cold water, usually only takes about a half cup. Blend until smooth!

  • Microwave Vegan Chocolate Cake

    Makes two small cakes

    Ingredients

    • 1/2 cup flour (for gluten free, use coconut flour)
    • 1/4 cup tbsp coconut sugar (or sub date sugar)
    • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
    • 1/2 tsp baking powder
    • 1/4 cup Earth Balance butter
    • 2 tbsp water
    • equivalent of 4 eggs (Orgran No Egg egg replacer works well, 4 tsp No Egg with 1/4 cup water)
    • 1/2 tsp orange extract

    Instructions

    In a small bowl or pyrex, mix dry ingredients. Add wet ingredients and mix thoroughly. The mixture should end up liquid, not powdery. For best results, let it sit for 5-10 minutes to let the baking powder activate before cooking.

    Pour into two small pyrex bowls. Microwave for 2-3 minutes, you'll see the mixture puff up and then stay relatively level. You want to stop cooking it shortly after it levels off, otherwise you will burn it around the edges. A knife should come out clean when it's done.

    Notes

    try coconut oil instead of Earth Balance next time for a generic substitute

    try making egg replacer with potato starch and tapioca flour instead of box brand

    Made a batch of "Sorta Secret Aardvark Sauce" from http://forums.egullet.org/topic/128657-sorta-secret-aardvark-sauce-habenero-hot-sauce/ last week, it came out pretty good! Not quite the same as Secret Aardvark sauce but still tasty. I ended up using only half the amount of rice vinegar, and it definitely did not come out too thick.

    Next time, I want to try it without the curry powder since I think that's what's contributing most to the difference in taste. I also want to add a little citric acid and xanthan gum.

    New favorite Mac and Cheese recipe and best way to eat zucchini from the CSA. Shred the zucchini in this pencil sharpener thing to turn it into spaghetti-like strips. Make a cheese sauce, like instant Mac and Cheese (the vegan Leahey brand one is great) and mix with hot sauce and black pepper. Way more satisfying than pasta Mac and Cheese and you eat half a zucchini this way! #recipe #vegan #macandcheese

  • Quick mustard vinaigrette dressing

    Ingredients

    • 2 tbsp spicy stone ground mustard
    • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
    • 4 tbsp olive oil
    • salt

    Instructions

    Toss everything into a small mason jar, and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
