Just made four weeks of waffles, going into the freezer now. Took almost 2 hours to cook the 8 batches. I should really get a second waffle iron cause it would literally halve the amount of time this takes.

Goodbye Philips Hue 👋 I finally finished replacing all my Hue lights with Caseta switches. While I will miss the color temperature control, I am excited that I can attach a switch anywhere that works and looks just like a normal switch, no wires needed!

Tonight was waffle night, where I make waffles for the next 6 weekends. I made 1.5x the previous batch because of our travel plans in March. I still think there's a way I can streamline this process further though.

Waffle night! Made a batch of waffles to freeze, but somehow I forgot to add the tofu. I kept adding water thinking gosh this is weird that the batter is so thick still. They are ok, but are a bit dense, definitely lacking the fluff that you get with the tofu in them.

The new Instax from arrived! Special pink edition only available in Japan, which ironically I had seen in person in Hong Kong just a few weeks ago, but assumed I would be able to buy it in the US. So I had to buy it from a third party shipper instead.
  • Apr 18
We really have to make a decision about the kitchen backsplash tile now! I got two more sample boxes in this week.
  • Apr 19
I installed the door code keypads today! It took so long before we were ready to install them that UniFi launched a new version that I bought instead, so the back plate is the wrong size. It matched the tall skinny UniFi readers so well, but I like this keypad better so here we are.
  • Apr 20
Tonight I made a batch of vegan mac and cheese mix to restock the cabinet. It's so nice to be able to just add oat milk and mix up a nice sauce!
  • Apr 21
I found my old iPod and charged it up and it still works! It even still has music on it. I'm only a little offended these are now being sold on eBay as retro tech.
  • Apr 22
The painters are working on the last bits here and there, painting the picture rail and staining the handrail.
  • Apr 23
Today I went around and took pictures of all the cabinets to make a list of what cabinet hardware to buy. Turns out there are lots of rules about how cabinet hardware should be placed, but also you can break a lot of the rules. I think I have it figured out though.
  • Apr 24
The painters finished the stain on the range hood and took down their plastic sheeting, looks so good! Next up picking out cabinet hardware.
  • Apr 25
Long day of meetings, but I did have a kitten curled up in my lap for some of them
  • Apr 26
Today I spent way too long iterating on the design for this over-the-top bicycle trailer workstation cart contraption. I've got a lot of things in mind to use it for, so I think I'm going to do it. The only question is whether this will be too top-heavy and at risk of tipping. Most of the weight is at the bottom, and I'll usually be hauling a giant battery at the base too, so it might be fine. Worst case I can always just remove the top part later.
  • Apr 27
yeah I don't think I'm going to be able to bend this back into shape.
  • Apr 28
I think this is going to work! I gutted an iMac G5 that had a broken display, and am swapping the display with the guts of a new 17" monitor! Gotta let the epoxy set, then I can wire it back up!

Just a regular day of catching up on meetings and work with the cats.

It works! I spent the morning on the final touches of replacing the guts of the iMac with an HDMI monitor. I made a mount for the monitor buttons to be accessible at the bottom of the iMac, and even hardwired the iMac power button into the monitor button controller! This is definitely not a high quality LCD panel, but it's still a lot better quality than the original one in the iMac.

This Ikea drain is clever, it means you can have a full depth drawer under the sink, but it gets clogged up so fast. There's a reason sinks don't have 90 degree turns in their drains. The U bend had some junk in it, but the straight part between the 90 degree turns was full of the most foul looking goo I've ever seen. At least it's clean now and draining fast again.

Hi, I'm Aaron Parecki, Director of Identity Standards at Okta, and co-founder of IndieWebCamp. I maintain oauth.net, write and consult about OAuth, and participate in the OAuth Working Group at the IETF. I also help people learn about video production and livestreaming. (detailed bio)

I've been tracking my location since 2008 and I wrote 100 songs in 100 days. I've spoken at conferences around the world about owning your data, OAuth, quantified self, and explained why R is a vowel. Read more.
