  • 100 Days of Music

100 Days of Music is a project to write a short 30-90 second song every day for 100 days. My goal is to create something that's "finished" enough to be able to use it as a podcast or video intro song. It doesn't have to be long, but has to sound decent.

I forgot how magical @Adobe Audition's "remix" feature is! You can take any song and make it any length, all automatically! I used to spend a lot of time doing this myself, finding the places to cut and loop phrases. I don't really understand how it works, but it is amazing!

That would be amazing! I'm always looking for good music libraries to use as background music in videos and podcasts.

You could try something that Kevin MacLeod does, which is to make all the music available Creative Commons attribution, and then also sell a downloadable pack of all the music for some amount. That way you'll get your name mentioned any time people use it in videos and podcasts, and if someone wants to give you some cash, they have a way to do that which also ends up being more convenient for them by having all the music already downloaded when they need it.

  • 1920's string sound - Orchestration - Composition - Instruments - FORUMS - Vienna Symphonic Library (www.vsl.co.at)
"That would be the hot impassioned string sound.

Use of mid and upper ranged orchestration, chordal, octave based, no open voicings. Strings doubling with double-reeds. Timpani and piatti and cymbal swells. Woodblock at times. Triangle. Trumpets with Trombones. Horns with violas and never joined in with trumpets and trombones. Tuba.

Emphasis on melody and counterpoint. Variation of melody. Rarely a non-melodic bar. The use of musical techniques that were tried and true to create contrast, not orchestration so much. For example, moving from legato espressivo to staccato/spiccato.

The absolute fundamental key to the Golden Age sound is the use of trumpets in cardboard or fiberglass conical mutes, as well as unmuted, and using the horns only for melody or as texture joined with strings and/or woodwinds, BUT NOT the other brass.

Second most important is the use of Violas to double the 2nd violins, either in a 3rd octave, or in a tightly locked upper string harmonization that is not open.

I spent most of the day today naming the rest of my #100daysofmusic songs, tagging and organizing them, and uploading them for distribution through all the online music outlets!

It turns out albums have a maximum length of 35 songs, so I broke the 100 songs into four parts, based on the time of day I finished the song. Every week for the next four weeks, one album will be released:

    • Songs of the Morning
    • Songs of the Afternoon
    • Songs of the Evening
    • Songs of the Night

Look for the albums on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, Amazon, and half a dozen other stores I've never heard of starting next week!
