Just tested out decoupling my Google Voice number from Hangouts thanks to the new Voice update. Mixed results as of now. After decoupling:

    • SMSs are sent and received only through the Google Voice app and voice.google.com, no longer in the Hangouts app.
    • The Google Voice app and website don't support making or receiving voice calls at all.
    • When I call from the Hangouts app, it still shows my Google Voice number as the caller ID.
    • Receiving calls to my number rings through Hangouts *only* on my phone. (It used to also ring through Gmail on my computer.)

Tested using the Google Voice iOS app. Thanks to @eayoungs for helping me test this out!

It's funny to watch old videos of cats because they look just like modern cats. I guess cat fashion hasn't changed. https://archive.org/details/PrivateL1947

If you haven't figured out what all these videos I've been posting are, I figured I'd give a quick update.

Starting at the end of December, I've been writing and publishing one short song per day. They usually end up being a brief sketch, but the goal is to publish something "finished" enough that it could be used in a podcast, TV show, background music, or something similar.

I'm now 40 days into the project, just under half way done! It's been a really interesting experiment so far. Not that these can all be considered complete, but I've now written more songs in the last 40 days than I have ever before, so I'd already consider this a success. The pressure to start and finish something each day is pretty intense. I'm not always happy with each one I publish, but this is more about exercising my ability to come up with something new every day than it is about making something "perfect".

If you want to catch up on the 40 things I've published so far, I've been publishing them to a bunch of different platforms so you have no excuse not to listen to them ;-)

Got stuck in a research hole looking for a new laptop/travel bag. Can't quite find anything that fits all my requirements though. Must be able to fit the following:

    • Laptop: 7.75" x 11"
    • Keyboard: 5.5" x 15.25"
    • Headphones: flattens to 6.5"x7.5"x1.5" or collapses to 6.5"x5"x3"
    • Kindle, notebooks: 5"x7"
    • DSLR: 3.5" x 4.5" x 6"
    • Battery: 3.5" x 6.5" x .75"
    • Various wires and cords

For reference, I can currently fit everything in my small Tumi sling bag, except the keyboard sticks out the top by an inch and so I can't zip up the compartment. That bag would be perfect if it were just a little taller.

I want something that doesn't *look* like a backpack, and is nice enough looking to carry in a semi-professional setting. Most backpacks with two straps are too casual looking, and most of the one-strap slings are too small. More zippers are generally good, since I tend to carry lots of little things that would all get lost in a single compartment.

The only ones I've found so far that are close are:

    • https://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-31374701-Travel-Sling/dp/B00Q845R8W
    • https://www.amazon.com/Victoriatourist-Travel-Canvas-Shoulder-Lightweight/dp/B01HU9EE1Y

    Any suggestions?
