  • Thoughts on the Hashbang (www.adequatelygood.com)
"In a perfect world, we would have been able to use the original URL structure with the hashes for our application, and served both the site and the app simultaneously. This would be the absolute best thing for users of all kinds, and this debate would not be happening."

  • This entire article is, essentially, saying that Twitter-the-concept is a great thing, but Twitter… (medium.com)
"Let’s pretend that instead of building a single company, a group of engineers got together and built an ecosystem. Like email, but taking in the lessons we’ve learnt, the new communication modes we’ve stumbled across, in the past decades. Multiple servers and services compete and coordinate in equal measure, advancing the whole and being pushed to their limits. Some servers compete on individual privacy, others compete by exchanging privacy for enriched services. Maybe some services even have Moments, who knows. Space for everyone."

Arguments tend to fizzle out quickly if the participants are able to make a fully fleshed-out thought, so we’ll limit every thought to a ridiculously small size, say 140 characters.

  • Medium is not a publishing tool — The Story — Medium (medium.com)
No one moves where they tweet because some other tool has better formatting or profile customization. That’s because a tiny percentage of the value Twitter brings comes from the software itself. It’s all about the network — the connection with other users and the content they create.

Dear @Twitter, I'm signed into 6 accounts, so a notification that says "@Twitter started following you" is not terribly helpful.

  • A Little Twitter Developer History

Back in the early days of Twitter, I noticed that several tweets I was seeing showed "via _____" next to the date, which linked to the application that was used to post the tweet. I thought "hey that's a clever way to give credit to applications" and thought it would be a good way to get people to discover the Twitter app I was creating at the time.
