Echo Frames - more or less likely to succeed than Google Glass? At least these pretty much look like normal glasses.

@spinnerin @reidab would it be too much to call my Alexa skill/app for Calagator "Alexagator"?

@beatsantique The Amazon Alexa alarm sounds just like a sample from your song "Mission"! https://soundcloud.com/aaronpk/alexa-beats-antique

@barryf watching your #indieweb video triggered my Amazon Echo! Turns out when you say "an excerpt" she hears "Alexa"

I've had the Echo for a few months now, and despite being skeptical of voice control in general, have been pleasantly surprised by Alexa!

Realistically, I haven't found all of the promoted features as useful as they try to make them appear. So far, it has been most useful for:

    • setting timers while cooking, so I don't have to fiddle with the crummy interface on my microwave with my hands covered in goo
    • turning off lights after I'm in bed
    • setting an alarm for the morning
    • asking "what's the weather" while I'm getting dressed
    • adding things to my grocery list

@davidmead Yeah the @ifttt channel is disappointingly limited and leads to hacks like that. I'm sure more apps will develop integrations for it soon tho. In the mean time, with the SDK it's possible to make arbitrary commands for it which is pretty neat!

So far, Amazon Echo has been most useful for: 1) setting timers while cooking, 2) turning off the lights after I am in bed, 3) adding things to my grocery list.

Now that the SDK is available in beta, what kind of voice-enabled apps should I make! The prompts are somewhat limiting, basically the below with some variations:

    • "Alexa, ask {app name} to {command}"
    • "Alexa, launch {app name} and {command}"
