So far, Amazon Echo has been most useful for: 1) setting timers while cooking, 2) turning off the lights after I am in bed, 3) adding things to my grocery list.

Now that the SDK is available in beta, what kind of voice-enabled apps should I make! The prompts are somewhat limiting, basically the below with some variations:

    • "Alexa, ask {app name} to {command}"
    • "Alexa, launch {app name} and {command}"

@aaronpk I like the flash briefing and weather stuff. Music is pretty nice too though sometimes it doesn't understand me

Ha cool. I didn't realize they'd released this. I just wrote a cron job to turn my sprinklers on. I think I'll try adapting this next.

@skyler @jburrows I am very skeptical of voice interfaces in general, but for the limited set of things I've used... aaron.pk/r4ba3

Have you tried using @ifttt with #AmazonEcho yet @aaronpk? Its kludgy, but I get it to turn on the Nest fan by asking Alexa "what's on my shopping list". We don't use the shopping list, so its like an unused command.
I also use the alarm clock, timers, play music, and check what's on my calendar each morning too. Excited to see what people come up with.
Would love to see Google Play, SomaFM tied in.

@aaronpk Sweet. I talked about this with @jburrows -- I honestly believe that a voice OS evolution is going to be very important, very soon.
