@aaronpk I think I remember hearing on one of your streams that you replaced the fans in the Videohub 20x20, but I can't find any info on that on your channel, maybe I've missed it? I'm considering buying the Videohub, but noise is an issue for my use-case. Thanks!

Last week was the first time using it with the new fans, so I haven't talked about it much more than that yet! This is the mod kit for it though if you're interested https://store.nebtek.com/video-router/561-quiet-on-set-kit-bmd-20x20-videohub-mod.html It's not perfectly silent like the Hyperdeck mod, but it's still worth it

For sure, and I 100% agree with the matrix folks. Moxie's argument basically boils down to "it's easier to make the trains run on time with a centralized service." 🤔

For sure - I mean, China is moving away from fossil fuels and building mass transit way faster than western nations. Does that mean we should ditch democracy to prevent global warming? Honestly, maybe, depending on what your values are. I'm not ready to take that path, though.

Yep he's not wrong, and I understand that argument from a product design standpoint. But I also disagree with it for all the reasons in that Matrix post!

    Also a useful summary:

    https://matrix.org/blog/2020/01/02/on-privacy-versus-freedom

This kind of comes down to "Freedom to Make Potentially Dangerous Choices", which in practice is the same as "Freedom to Someday Leave a Hegemonic Society".

    I think.

This is a pretty good independent writeup of GNAP, from @mooreds, and I kinda love this Beergarden metaphor.

Great story about how @catherineols and her housemates COVID risk calculator came to exist! And also makes me miss being in homes that have names. 🌯

Sitting down to dinner last night in New Zealand.
Waiter: is this a special occasion?
    Me: yes
    Waiter: what’s the occasion?
Me: finally being able to eat dinner in a crowded restaurant without fear of death
Waiter: how about we start with champagne then

    Omg we did it! 🤩

Thanks to the community feedback (and ya, bad press) Apple decided to remove the ContentFilterExclusionList (in 11.2 beta 2)

Means socket filter firewalls (e.g. LuLu) can now comprehensively monitor/block all OS traffic!!

Feature request: GMail filtering of not just spam, but nazis, too. Not for (just) my inbox, but for the millions of people who are getting inundated with toxic garbage every day.
    Aaron Parecki
I was thinking about this the other day... if anyone was in a position to “fix” Twitter, it’s Gmail with their spam filter. It doesn’t assume any one piece of content is absolute spam or not, spam is relative to the recipient.

The pirate bay, the most censored website in the world, started by kids, run by people with problems with alcohol, drugs and money, still is up after almost 2 decades. Parlor and gab etc have all the money around but no skills or mindset. Embarrassing.

Yeah it was back in September which is like at least two years ago so maybe they figured it out
