Sixth, you need to be passionate.

You need to wear your heart on your sleeve.

You need to sometimes dribble on your sleeve.

    Sometimes more than dribble.

    You've got this.

    And you've SOAKED it.

I had no idea these "time since last opened" pill caps were a thing and also so cheap, and now I want to make these for all sorts of different reminders, like

    • when did I last feed the cat?
    • when did I last pump up my bike tires?
    Aaron Parecki
of course, it would also be tied into my home automation system so I could surface that data on other devices around the house.

I'm imagining an esp32 with OLED screen and a nice push-button switch. Pretty sure I could fit that into a neat 3D printed case.

You should put a sign up telling kids not to come in, but inviting them to have their parents contact you for a tour when you're there. I mean, kids are curious. Give them an outlet.
    Aaron Parecki
I don't know if I need to invite that kind of liability on myself, plus half the fun of it is wandering around without grownups around

I'm of two minds about this, as a kid who screwed around construction sites 50 years ago. You did provide them with a story to tell. If you had a speaker that said, "Intruder alert. Killer robots activated," it would have been an awesome story.

255gb sounds like an enormous thumb drive! That’s like the base level HD for a whole laptop (from some companies…)
    Aaron Parecki
It's really not bad, like $20-30 for a 256gb thumb drive from reputable sources. They don't have to be as fast as the SSD in a laptop.

hah I hadn't really planned on turning it into a service, but now I'm kind of tempted to set up a site where you can log in and buy a USB drive with your Flickr data that I'd ship to you!

@aaronpk super to know. I wonder if Flickr embeds geolocation into EXIF data when I drop photos onto Flickr's maps. I'm going to download a few to see

    Aaron Parecki
IIRC it doesn't embed it, but the geo data is available via the Flickr API and is included in the archive. I didn't include any map generation code in this site build, but the data is there to use later.

@aaronpk were you able to download Flickr albums and keep photos associated with your albums? I have more than 30,000 Flickr photos and think I would need to spend a weekend sorting downloaded content.

    Aaron Parecki
Yep, it makes a complete archive. Albums, tags, even comments. It's all browseable as a website by just opening index.html on your drive.

I just finished downloading my whole Flickr account to a static website. Now browsing around it is much faster than looking at the same photos on Flickr, and it makes me want to get back to actually organizing my photos again!
    Aaron Parecki
After downloading all the different resolutions Flickr has, it turned into 255gb on disk. Not bad, would even fit on a thumb drive.

Here's the source if you want to try this yourself!

I’ll talk to DVE store, but there’s a disconnect between the assembly instructions and the parts list. The parts list says only two drop in M4 nuts are provided, but the assembly PDF says extra nuts are provided to install additional accessories.
    Aaron Parecki
There should be a separate little bag in the kit with M5*8 screws and two M5 slide-in nuts. We can send that to you if it's missing! Good point that it's missing from the parts list though.

@aaronpk This could be self hosted: https://pixelfed.org/

And would I think completely covers all of Flickr 1.0 features at least.

    @pixelfed

    Aaron Parecki
Pixelfed looks neat but is definitely going for more of an Instagram feature parity than Flickr

@aaronpk Just assembled the PK1 Pro Streamer stand for the Atem Mini Extreme ISO. It mentions it comes with replacement bolts to attach the Smallrig 1842 monitor mount, but there are no nuts to screw those bolts into. Nothing mentioned in the instructions.
    Aaron Parecki
hmm it should have come with two slide-in nuts for that. Send an email to the store you bought it from and we can fix it!

@aaronpk https://pixelfed.org/ is the fediverse flickr. I dont know how it compares, feature-wise.

    Aaron Parecki
I'd say it's more of the fediverse Instagram. Flickr was always less about the timeline and scrolling thru photos and more about organizing by tags and albums
