Pretty sure @aaronpk will be both happy at the removal of the proprietary hub requirement and mystified at the EOL for HomeKit support. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/06/28/philips_hue_hub_bluetooth/
    Aaron Parecki
Oh no, I actually really like their hub! It hosts an HTTP API on it with no account crap, so you can control everything from the local network.

I recommend the TV series "Mayday" (alias "Air Crash Investigation"). It's not only interesting but also surprisingly accurate.

This sounds like a great thing to watch on the plane 😂

Hm, I kind of wonder what this functionality is used for if most of the people read the text in their reader which I would guess would not show that?

    Aaron Parecki
Just for fun 😆 Or maybe eventually we add support in readers!

Oh I'm sorry, the user details are in the same response as the access token, the access token itself does not contain anything
    Aaron Parecki
oh did you actually get the user's name and email address?

Nothing, currently, but the access token contains the user details.
    Aaron Parecki
contains? The access tokens I was seeing were super short strings. I didn't see any user details in them at all.

Another question: did you manage to exchange the authorization code provided by the Apple Sign In framework on iOS for a token using the REST API? I'm getting "invalid_grant".
    Aaron Parecki
Yes I did, but I have no idea what the access token can be used for.

    #40 Moving feeds/items between channels

    Aaron Parecki
I've had this on my todo list for Aperture for quite a while: https://github.com/aaronpk/Aperture/issues/37

Moving a feed/subscription to a new channel does seem like something potentially useful for a client to do, although I'm not sure what I would want the UX of that to look like.

Before this ends up in the Microsub spec, I'd want to see at least Aperture and one other server support the feature on its own even without a client UI for it.

If any client developers have an idea for what this might look like in the apps that'd be great to see sketched out here as well.

    Thanks for starting this discussion!

    RSS: there’s nothing better

    Aaron Parecki
One of the main reasons to use h-feed and h-entry is that RSS/Atom really only can represent blog posts and podcasts. For those purposes, they're fine formats, but the reality is there are many more kinds of content on the social web today, such as replies like this one which can't really be represented in RSS.

What features are you finding that Microsub doesn't support? Like most of the IndieWeb protocols, Microsub is supposed to be an evolving protocol based on the needs and implementations of people using it. I don't expect that we will ever say "Microsub is done!" the way that some specs put a stick in the ground, since the reality is that things change and need to adapt to new use cases to remain relevant.

In my effort to become more involved in the IndieWed community I created indieweb.life and indieweb.social.  A lot of the information out there is either out-of-date or is written so far above the head of the complete novice.  A lot of it is geared towards developers and webmasters.  I wanted to create a place and space where a person with only a cursory knowledge could come and get simple, easy instructions and places to go for further guidance. I wanted to create a simple “get started” site with some simple up-to-date links and instructions on indieweb.life for people looking to get started with WordPress and the IndieWeb.  I also created the open Mastodon instance at indieweb.social for anyone who would like to join an instance focused on supporters and participants of the IndieWeb movement.  I would really like it if some of the more experienced veterans would be willing to critique the site and maybe contribute or syndicate some content that would help new seekers.  Also, if anyone would be willing to be an admin on indieweb.social then we can get listed on joinmastodon.org.
    Aaron Parecki
This is really cool! Out of curiosity, where are you seeing out of date information? If it's the wiki, we'd love to know which pages need an update so we can fix them!

"Drink your own wine" instead of "eat your own dogfood". Maybe a better metaphor because people actually want to drink wine? But on the other hand even mediocre wine is still wine. #Identiverse

Recently, I spoke at a local meetup about my experience breaking into tech and things I did, that people can do too. The fact that I said contributing to OSS can be a great thing to do, I got flagged for breaking CoC because it was a "microagression." I am absolutely appalled.

    Lovely #indieweb people! What do you think of "/archive/bookmarks/", "/archive/bookmarks/2019/", "/archive/2019/03/bookmarks/" vs "/bookmarks/archive/", "/bookmarks/archive/2019/". "/bookmarks/archive/2019/03"?
Where "bookmarks" could be any typical IndieWeb content type.
    Aaron Parecki
I used to have the content type as the first part of my URLs and came to entirely regret it.

When you give a talk that's about finding your place in tech, and you are immediately reminded why you shouldn't give talks and shouldn't help community. Because it's all exhausting. You can't win.
    Aaron Parecki
That's awful! You have a great talk last night! 🍩💛 I'm looking forward to publishing the video of it too
