The IRS has a new authentication provider: http://id.me.

So to pay taxes to the US government I need to use an identity provider with a Montenegro domain. πŸ™„πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Looking at some of my old videos.

Partly proud that they still get views, and that I at least TRIED a few things that I thought would work.

Also spending time right now editing out those things (such as me embedding a "lut sale" for luts that don't exist anymore - sigh)

The rollout is in phases, with a subset of users flagged to test the live signup process. Even with that constraint, the site is easily handling ~250k simultaneous users right now, and makes up most of the top 10 federal websites currently being visited. https://analytics.usa.gov

Dear @Eventbrite, I have an account, so please make sure it is not possible for other people to sign me up for events with only my email address. I've been added to dozens of events over the last two weeks and it's an interesting new vector for spam. @EventbriteHelp

I write my slides in Markdown and have Reveal.JS make them look fancy: https://revealjs.com/markdown/
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah these things are definitely nice, but I should have clarified, I can't change the way I create the slides, I just want to be able to display PDFs on my site that way it doesn't matter how I created them

As Iβ€˜m a huge #Markdown fan: there a loads of tools that convert Markdown into slides (of all formats). Plus, Markdown always goes to HTML (and PDF, and MS DOC, and RTF, and …). Maybe start here? https://gist.github.com/johnloy/27dd124ad40e210e91c70dd1c24ac8c8

  • Smart contracts without blockchains | by Paul Frazee | Jan, 2022 | Medium (paulfrazee.medium.com)
"Problem is, I think users tend to think β€œglobally.” They expect all activity within a space or context to be visible to them. If a search for some user can return nothing because the subject is outside your local social graph, then your technology is less useful than other search models. This is why we tend to pool around well-maintained global indexes to give reliable results, but then you have centralized authority emerging."

OAuth is an excellent alternative to OpenID. If you find yourself in the need of an authentication system for your app, consider it.

Hi, I'm Aaron Parecki, Director of Identity Standards at Okta, and co-founder of IndieWebCamp. I maintain oauth.net, write and consult about OAuth, and participate in the OAuth Working Group at the IETF. I also help people learn about video production and livestreaming. (detailed bio)

I've been tracking my location since 2008 and I wrote 100 songs in 100 days. I've spoken at conferences around the world about owning your data, OAuth, quantified self, and explained why R is a vowel. Read more.
