Day 49. The opening sound is a reversed piano chord that starts with a tight EQ in the middle and opens up as it builds. I used that sound a couple more times in the song. After getting the piano chords down, I layered a few strange sounds on top for effect.continue reading... -

Day 48: Switching to Full Page Load "next" Paging #100DaysOfIndieWeb
For some reason, some of the time I've noticed that my "load more" links load completely the wrong content. These links previously would load the next page inline, and render the new content without a page load. I liked this as a compromise between traditional full pageload paging and infinite scroll. However, I've been seeing it behave strangely the last week or two, sometimes loading duplicate content, or the page scrolling strange after clicking it.continue reading... -

Day 47: Translating Slack :emoji: to Unicode #100DaysOfIndieWeb
When someone types an emoji in Slack, it shows up in the API as a text description surrounded by colons. For example, 😻 is :heart_eyes_cat: when it comes through the API. Previously, the gateway would just send the text through to IRC, which doesn't look great for IRC users.continue reading... -
Day 47 - Launch
Day 47. Today I wanted to use a bunch of samples from NASA shuttle launches. I started by finding a countdown I liked, and then grabbed samples from a bunch of different NASA launches to overlay them. I retimed the countown to fit the beat, and took some liberties with the order of some of the sounds, like adding the mic chirp in places it wouldn't normally exist. I used a recording of a shuttle launch as the foundation. The video is an assortment of clips I found on the Internet Archive from various NASA missions.continue reading... -

Day 46: Expanding the IRC/Slack Gateway to all IndieWeb Channels #100DaysOfIndieWeb
For quite some time, we've been running my IRC/Slack gateway so that our main #indieweb IRC channel is also available in Slack. It's great because it allows people to use the nice mobile-friendly Slack client, while also not locking ourselves into a proprietary platform. OAuth 2.0 Simplified is a guide to OAuth 2.0 focused on writing clients that gives a clear overview of the spec at an introductory level.
In 2017, I published a longer version of this guide as a book, available on oauth.com as well as a print version. The book guides you through building an OAuth server, and covers many details that are not part of the spec. I published this book in conjunction with Okta.
