@aaronpk What is the kind of thing you are skeptical of for a Voice driven OS?
    Aaron Parecki
@skyler Amazon limiting the vocabulary to a small set of things really helps cut down the error rate, but I still manage to have it mis-hear me quite a lot. Also many tasks are too complicated to do by voice, and are easier done with a good physical interface. I am excited to be able to try out living with a voice interface for a while though!

@davidmead Yeah the @ifttt channel is disappointingly limited and leads to hacks like that. I'm sure more apps will develop integrations for it soon tho. In the mean time, with the SDK it's possible to make arbitrary commands for it which is pretty neat!

@aaronpk Sweet. I talked about this with @jburrows -- I honestly believe that a voice OS evolution is going to be very important, very soon.
    Aaron Parecki
@skyler @jburrows I am very skeptical of voice interfaces in general, but for the limited set of things I've used it for, it's quite nice.

So far, Amazon Echo has been most useful for: 1) setting timers while cooking, 2) turning off the lights after I am in bed, 3) adding things to my grocery list.

Now that the SDK is available in beta, what kind of voice-enabled apps should I make! The prompts are somewhat limiting, basically the below with some variations:

    • "Alexa, ask {app name} to {command}"
    • "Alexa, launch {app name} and {command}"

  • 6 things I learned from riding in a Google Self-Driving Car - The Oatmeal (theoatmeal.com)
The unfortunate part of something this transformative is the inevitable, ardent stupidity which is going to erupt from the general public. Even if in a few years self-driving cars are proven to be ten times safer than human-operated cars, all it’s going to take is one tragic accident and the public is going to lose their minds. There will be outrage. There will be politicizing. There will be hashtags.

SFSafariViewController can be used to display web content within your app. It shares cookies and other website data with Safari, and has many of Safari's great features, such as Safari AutoFill and Safari Reader. Unlike Safari itself, the SFSafariViewController UI is tailored for displaying a single page, featuring a Done button that takes users back to where they were in your app.
