Here's my step by step guide for how (and why) to leave Facebook without actually deleting your account. I did this in June and haven't looked back. #DeleteFacebook https://aaronparecki.com/2020/06/14/14/how-to-leave-facebook

#531 Add standalone chat with ability to send messages

    Aaron Parecki
This would also open up the possibility of being able to have the person streaming overlay the chat into the livestream itself. I do this with YouTube chat using a browser extension that restyles the popout chat window. https://github.com/aaronpk/live-chat-overlay

I was just wondering on alternatives to the facebook groups and the best I could think of was Discord server
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah I'd say Discord servers and Discourse forums are the two things that have replaced Facebook groups for me.

For people interested in non-alcoholic fancy drinks: @ohmydollar's Purrbon tea is fun! https://shop.ohmydollar.com/products/purrbon-tea - this is the whiskey-sour-style drink, and it's also nice as a hot cup of tea.

Thank you, this is a great guide and while I already keep my Facebook interactions to a minimum there are some settings that I need to go through and validate. https://twitter.com/aaronpk/status/1343290856048971777

It's sad that we need guides for this but we do and this one is a great one. Maybe I will switch from my strategy of enabling and disabling my profile every few weeks

I started to whisper and my wife asked me why I was whispering.

I told her I didn't want Mark Zuckerberg to hear us.

    I laughed.

    My wife laughed.

    Alexa laughed.

    Siri laughed.
