Today I added support to IndieNews for storing and displaying the timezone of submitted posts. Previously, all the dates were stored and displayed as UTC, which can be misleading such as when a post is submitted after 5pm in Pacific time since the post then has the date of the following day in UTC.
My DSLR camera doesn't have GPS, so normally all my photos would not include the location of where I was when I took the photo. I used to use the Eye-Fi card that did geotagging, but that is no longer supported in the new "mobi" line. I could get an external GPS unit for my camera, but that sounds cumbersome and would only work with that one camera.
Today in the middle of the flight from Portland to Amsterdam, I was unsatisfied with merely knowing what time it was in Portland and in Amsterdam. Instead, I wanted to know what time it effectively was in the airplane as I was flying, taking in to account the stretching of time by flying.
My theory is by looking at "airplane time" and ignoring the origin and destination times completely, it may be easier to adjust to a new timezone since you won't have to trick yourself into ignoring your other clocks.
