    It's absolutely wild to me that companies will mail me a postcard a few weeks after an Amazon purchase and offer a $150 gift card to leave a review! Is that really profitable? Are they actually going to make back $150 because of my one review?

    Forcing an employee trying to get paid to prove their worth in front of 100 million people.
    Mocking their work. Mocking their disability.

    I have never envied a skill more than someone who can receive a deadline..let’s say a week out. Calculate it’ll take 20 hours of work and then evenly spread that out throughout the week.

    gotta say, this thread where an employee who had access cut over a week ago with no word from hr very sincerely tries to figure out if he was fired (he was) only to get repeatedly belittled and mocked by his boss, the richest man in the world, is real fucking infuriating, man

    We worked for more or less every big tech company.

    We grew fast and made money. I think that's what you are referring to when you say independently wealthy?

    That I independently made my money, as opposed to say, inherited an emerald mine.

  • How to use your own domain as your BlueSky handle

    I recently got access to the BlueSky beta, and decided to poke around to see what it's all about. I will save the details of what it is and how I feel about it for a different post. However, one of the first things you do when you sign up is choose a username that exists under the bsky.app domain. I have zero interest in another name rush where everyone tries to claim the shortest username possible, so I went with aaronpk.bsky.app rather than trying to get a or apk.

    Today I learned that when Twitter acquired @uenodotco in 2021, @iamharaldur quietly negotiated for the acquisition price to be paid as salary so he could pay 46% in taxes instead of 22%, in gratitude to his education in Finland.

    An especially stark contrast in character today.

    I'm glad to see that BlueSky supports custom domains! I have zero interest in sitting on a username in the bluesky namespace. Setting it up was roughly the same as pointing your own domain to a hosting provider, and a lot easier than Mastodon/ActivityPub!

    Some parts of Twitter may not be working as expected right now. We made an internal change that had some unintended consequences. We’re working on this now and will share an update when it’s fixed.

    I've heard so many horror stories of YouTube channels getting hacked. What are some steps to prevent this from happening with my own channel? Can I do anything beyond 2-step verification to prevent this? I have multiple channels.

    @YouTubeLiaison
    Aaron Parecki
    The majority of these hacks happen because the victim runs a program they got from a sketchy source. Could be a fake OBS download, could be a fake brand PR contact. Reading emails in gmail is fine, but don't open any attachments other than jpgs. Sadly 2fa doesn't fix this.

    Only answer emails from a Chromebook, NEVER use a Windows computer to do it, create separate sock puppet accounts for different channels and social profiles. Get a Titan security key, but realize it doesn't stop browser intercept attacks which are happening through brand deal… https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1632543340729352194
