When your iPhone autocorrects “jet lag” into “JWT lag” you know it’s time for a vacation…for both you and the phone.

I had no idea these "time since last opened" pill caps were a thing and also so cheap, and now I want to make these for all sorts of different reminders, like

    • when did I last feed the cat?
    • when did I last pump up my bike tires?
    Aaron Parecki
of course, it would also be tied into my home automation system so I could surface that data on other devices around the house.

I'm imagining an esp32 with OLED screen and a nice push-button switch. Pretty sure I could fit that into a neat 3D printed case.

What is something you have, with no sentimental value, where you have researched the alternatives, which you would never trade for literally anything else of any price?

For the past month, I've had a fragment of a song stuck in my head, and haven't been able to figure out where it's from. The Foundation theme reminds me of it.

Finally, tonight, I remembered it's from a bizarre Swedish commercial I saw years ago.

You should put a sign up telling kids not to come in, but inviting them to have their parents contact you for a tour when you're there. I mean, kids are curious. Give them an outlet.

I don't know if I need to invite that kind of liability on myself, plus half the fun of it is wandering around without grownups around

It's the seasteading or Mars expedition-ing of the web. Abandoning the Earth project instead of making it work well. There's still so much we can do.

I taught a class today to a room of artists about how websites work, and how to make one. It restored my faith in the open web, because everyone instantly got it.

I'm of two minds about this, as a kid who screwed around construction sites 50 years ago. You did provide them with a story to tell. If you had a speaker that said, "Intruder alert. Killer robots activated," it would have been an awesome story.

I just got to scare the crap out of some kids who were climbing around my construction site by triggering a 12v siren from Home Assistant, and watched the whole thing on the remote camera feed! It was oddly satisfying, and I hope they get the message not to come back.

255gb sounds like an enormous thumb drive! That’s like the base level HD for a whole laptop (from some companies…)
    Aaron Parecki
It's really not bad, like $20-30 for a 256gb thumb drive from reputable sources. They don't have to be as fast as the SSD in a laptop.

hah I hadn't really planned on turning it into a service, but now I'm kind of tempted to set up a site where you can log in and buy a USB drive with your Flickr data that I'd ship to you!

I just finished downloading my whole Flickr account to a static website. Now browsing around it is much faster than looking at the same photos on Flickr, and it makes me want to get back to actually organizing my photos again!
    Aaron Parecki
After downloading all the different resolutions Flickr has, it turned into 255gb on disk. Not bad, would even fit on a thumb drive.

Here's the source if you want to try this yourself!
