Super fan. But it’s really the name of a guy named Stan, who loved Eminem far far too much. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_(song)

Surprisingly that is not mentioned on the wikipedia page!

curious, what music licensing company do you guys use most?
    Aaron Parecki
Artlist, because it has the most permissive license. Plus I've already had them fight some bogus copyright claims on my videos and they were great about it.

Twitter always has me feeling like im taking crazy pills.

I literally only use one phone and only have one sim.

Are there that many folks that really switch back and forth every 30 minutes?
    Aaron Parecki
I've definitely popped my phone's SIM into the YoloBox to livestream from it.

Also it's nice to be able to buy a local SIM when out of the country cause it's often cheaper than the eSIM plans.

I've shied away from reducing location accuracy because then I can't defer location updates, but since I'm already at the 30 minute interval I'll try that out!
    Aaron Parecki
Now I can't remember exactly why, but it has to do with the underlying iOS APIs.

"best" is meant for things like navigation apps where you really want every data point as accurate as possible. Personally I don't mind the battery hit because that's the data I want!

Woah, thanks for dropping in! I’ve been using Overland all summer and have really enjoyed tracking my location. Any tips on optimizing for battery life?
    Aaron Parecki
Glad you're enjoying it! Changing how often it sends data will have probably the biggest effect. Notice the two other top apps there, Outlook and Overcast, both of which are heavy background data users. Next up is desired accuracy.

I've been using Overland lately but it seems to do a number on my battery life. https://github.com/aaronpk/Overland-iOS
    Aaron Parecki
It's got plenty of knobs to turn if you want to increase battery life at the cost of collecting slightly less data. Most of the things on the settings screen adjust properties of CLLocationManager

A man in McDonald’s just ordered an apple pie and the cashier said “would you like to do two apple pies instead” while giving no reasoning or context and the man said “yes.” I demand all conversations moving forward to be this way. Efficient, goal-oriented, apple pie adjacent.

you can charge them for 15-30 minutes when you do anything in the evening (shower, movie, reading, etc.). They charge in just a moment. I don't know why you all make such a science about it.🤷‍♂️

I've been wearing smart watches of various sorts for 11 years, and my experience has shown me that a device doesn't work for me unless the battery lasts for at least 4 days, preferably closer to 10.

Could I train myself to be more proactive at charging? Yes. Do I want to? no.

In the age of cell phones, the area code has become the ancestral clan name or heraldry. It is a marker of old stories, loyalties, a statement that says "there was a land I came from but am there no longer"

I love expanded health features, but I still don't understand sleeping with a smart watch.
    Aaron Parecki
That's literally the only reason I want a smart watch, to track my sleep! Coincidentally that's the reason I can't get an Apple Watch, battery life is just crap.
