some kind of scheme where nerds who want to set up static site generators and don't actually want to write blog posts are paired up with writers who want a nice blog setup and don't want to have to understand how technology works

I can't believe most major apps in which we buy digital goods have broken their purchasing process to force you out of the app & onto the web to avoid the platform tax & we've just sorta accepted this huge hit to ease-of-use and no one seems to be complaining or talking about it

Tiny design detail: nested border radii look really funky if they're the same. To maintain the same curvature, the outer radius = inner radius + padding.

not sure, I only fly Delta :)
    Aaron Parecki
in my experience it's specific to the wifi provider of the flight, for example gogo provides wifi on a bunch of different airlines and it worked the same for all of those

Been bored on a few flights over the last few months that had spotty Wi-Fi, so I built a @raycastapp extension that hits the plane's onboard flight stats API and renders is as a dashboard.

Any Raycast users out there? Should I publish this extension to the store?
    Aaron Parecki
Never heard of it before but now I am interested!

A while back I wrote a script that downloads this in-flight data and logs it, but now I just pull the data from flightaware for my logs :-)

This entire thread is crucial reading for understanding what is happening in entertainment right now, but the TLDR is basically we going through a second era of vertical integration with studios creating their own streaming sites due to rollbacks of antitrust legislation.

dear younger people, the default mode of websites used to be “here is everything in chronological order, sorted into categories that you can browse at your leisure”

the reward-system-mining approach that Tiktok, Instagram, and others now take was a step away from the norm

Some people will be able to make better videos by putting more time into an individual video.

But I think that requires experience and talent.

Most people will improve FASTER in the early stages by MAKING MORE so they can learn and get sharper, faster and smarter via EXPERIENCE
    Aaron Parecki
    💯

It has taken me a *lot* of work to get over my tendency towards wanting to make each video "perfect", because they never will be and the only way to keep getting better is to keep making more!

PETRIFYING THOUGHT: in another 28 months, we will have exited the first quarter of the 21st century, and will thus arguably be entering "mid-21st century"

    😱💀😱💀😱

This thought brought to you by searching for a product which has a lot of vintage/antique mid-20th-C hits 😬

well I did my (very small) part and migrated my two websites off of Cloudflare today. I'm sure my origin server can handle the extra 26gb/mo of traffic itself just fine.
    Aaron Parecki
Update: a week later and traffic has fallen off of Cloudflare. Interestingly I don't see a corresponding increase on the origin server's bandwidth usage, but I do see more requests in the access log.

Sometimes I get annoyed that it takes me 10 hours to make a video that takes you 10 minutes to watch.

So my goal with every video is that it gets at least as much total watch time as it took me to make it, then it's worth it.
