    Oops I was looking at the wrong sentence. You're right, looks like something went wrong with the pre processor that adds the chapter links.

    What is the absolute closest thing to GitHub Gist that can be self-hosted?

    In terms of design and functionality. Hosts images and markdown, rendered. Creates links that can be private or public. Uses/requires registration.

    I have looked at dozens of pastebin-like things.

    I think this boils down to discoverability problem. If people are sharing posts they write, the algorithm isn't serving them up. Missing the days of blogrolls.
