@aaronpk This could be self hosted: https://pixelfed.org/
And would I think completely covers all of Flickr 1.0 features at least.
@pixelfed

Pixelfed looks neat but is definitely going for more of an Instagram feature parity than Flickr

@aaronpk Just assembled the PK1 Pro Streamer stand for the Atem Mini Extreme ISO. It mentions it comes with replacement bolts to attach the Smallrig 1842 monitor mount, but there are no nuts to screw those bolts into. Nothing mentioned in the instructions.

hmm it should have come with two slide-in nuts for that. Send an email to the store you bought it from and we can fix it!

@aaronpk https://pixelfed.org/ is the fediverse flickr. I dont know how it compares, feature-wise.

I'd say it's more of the fediverse Instagram. Flickr was always less about the timeline and scrolling thru photos and more about organizing by tags and albums

Since Instagram *still* doesn’t let you put clickable links in posts… I’m looking for a service that replicates the grid with links to anywhere so it’s easy to find the post you were just looking at and tap to go that YouTube video. Any favorites?

I remember looking for these a while ago, there's a ton of them, but I ended up making my own with some simple HTML/CSS template I found https://aaronpk.tv/links/

@aaronpk Pixelfed? https://pixelfed.org/

maybe? That's still way more social network-y than what I actually want, which is sharing photo albums with select people.

also, the tools for managing photos are extremely limited, like not being able to adjust modification dates of photos, and not being able to choose sort order within albums

basically I just want Flickr but self hosted 😭

I decided to try out NextCloud for this, it mostly works, but has some weird things:

• The new dashboard view is completely useless for this use case
• It's weird that I'm giving people an entire toolset just to be able to look at photos

Hello internet friends!

What is the best way to share a set of photos with a select few people, while being able to add more photos over an extended period of time? Must not rely on creating an account like on iCloud.

I have my own thoughts but I am interested in other ideas!

This did not age well. For the record: my opinion has wildly changed.

Missed opportunity to wait a month and 2 days to tweet this exactly 10 years later

Y'all have 6-minute videos that only take 3-4 hours to edit?!

I was gonna say... my current rate is 1 hour work for 1 minute of finished video. I'd be thrilled to spend 3 hours on a 6 minute video much less 1 hour on it!

I’ve been thinking this recently too! Horrible air quality is… horrible.

It's so bad, and it's bad in a way that's really hard to describe how bad it is to anyone who isn't also experiencing it

Love playing the guessing game of "do I feel like crap because I have covid or because the air has been 150 AQI for the past five days" 🙃

The good news is there is a test for one of those and it came back negative

I just discovered that a gliding club in New Zealand wrote software to receive the GPS data that my iOS app collects and they recommend it on their website for tracking flights! https://gliding.co.nz/overland-for-iphone-setup/

p.s. if any iOS developers are interested in a project, I could use some help updating the app to the latest Apple APIs! Looks like there are a bunch of new things in CoreLocation that I should be using for this app.

Dishwasher: "E24"

Us: "wtf is E24?!"

Google: "dishwasher is not draining. The filter may need to be cleaned."

Us: "filter?? There's a filter?!"

Dishwasher: ...

wow I have never regretted clicking a "show sensitive content" button more 😬

@aaronpk They've gone with a Google photos-like layout. I like this although it's ironic as years ago when they first released a photos app, I argued they should take this direction, but they were enamored with the "everything must be square" "crop all the things!" approach.
The new app also has object / person recognition.

Looks like I'm a few versions out of date, so here we go!

@aaronpk #Nextcloud's new photo app is nice (the one in Nextcloud Hub 3). It is self hosted, but there's many places that will host Nextcloud for you, often for free with a limited space.

I do already run a NextCloud for a few things, I might have to update it and see how the new app is
