maybe not the best way but i had a good experience with waschinski/photo-stream on github (jekyll)

Looks nice. And then put it behind a password of some sort? Have you tried that before?

We use hightail for distributing audio/ video & artwork files - You could use that. You can send a group folder and have work spaces - You can also have password protected files/links.
    Aaron Parecki
Hm that looks nice but may be a bit more "pro" than what I'm looking for in this case

Honestly, probably a private group message on your app of choice. iCloud can share no-account-required photo sets via iCloud link, but you can’t add to the link over time and would have to reshare. Otherwise you could go old-school and self-host a photo page behind a password.
    Aaron Parecki
Going old school may end up being the best option to be honest

Do you need them to be able to add to the folder too?
    Aaron Parecki
Nope, but commenting would be nice but is definitely not a requirement

A shared link to a folder
    Aaron Parecki
It's interesting to think about the threat model difference between someone accidentally sharing the link vs someone sharing their account info to leak the data

That's interesting, it looks like basically a private Instagram account that you can share with specific people. Promising.

I've had a nextcloud server running on an old laptop for a while. It's limited by my slow home internet, but it had the functionality
    Aaron Parecki
I do already run NextCloud. Do you do it via a shared link? Or do you create accounts for people?

    Hello internet friends!

What is the best way to share a set of photos with a select few people, while being able to add more photos over an extended period of time? Must not rely on creating an account like on iCloud.

I have my own thoughts but I am interested in other ideas!
    Aaron Parecki
To be clear, open source is nice but not a requirement. However I don't want to require that someone who has no current affiliation with a big name like Apple/Google/Amazon have to create an account on that service.

p.s. it was an excellent decision to bring the drone, even it it took up a proportionally large amount of space in my one bag

@aaronpk nice, is this it here? https://github.com/aaronpk/Flickr-Archivr

    Aaron Parecki
Yep that's the one! I've finished downloading @anomalily's account, and I'm still in the middle of downloading mine. So far so good! There are some improvements I'd like to make to the website it builds, but I'm pretty sure I'm happy with the raw archive it creates and can always rebuild the site from that archive later.

Well ResolveCon is a wrap! Now I'm biking from Ashland to the Medford airport! Gonna be a bit of a slow ride to stop and take some drone photos and such.

@aaronpk I know you recently completed the process for your Part 107 Drone License. I’m going to start prepping for the exam. Do you have any specific resources (books, videos, etc..) that you would recommend? Thanks!

    Aaron Parecki
Yeah! I highly recommend the Pilot Institute course! That's really the only thing I studied before the test: https://pilotinstitute.com/course/part-107-remote-pilot/?affcode=245841_o4stdmp5

too bad, try harder. it's 2022 and the default suggestions are straight out of 2007, that's not New Stuff Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

if i've gotta go digging then you're failing my criteria
    Aaron Parecki
I mean then it sounds like maybe you're looking for something else entirely? No need to dismiss an entire community of people working together to build things because it doesn't match up with what you want πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

    it's not anti incrementalism

    because incrementalism implies change

indieweb is literally just conservatism. there's almost nothing new since 2007, nothing substantively improved or explored. it's just Web 2.0 sentimentalism as a movement
    Aaron Parecki
There's a lot of new stuff if you look past the home page. I agree there are some problems with how we've described things, and I'd like to fix that, but it feels like you're coming to a pretty quick judgment without a lot of context.

I genuinely worry about how easy it would be for malicious people to convince naive users to "add this script to get X" when the script actually just steals their passwords and cookies for every site they visit
