The most recent episode of The Orville proves that it really is a better Star Trek than Star Trek. Holy cow it is so, so good.
    Aaron Parecki
I was just thinking that! So good!

@aaronpk The shadows are what got me.

Also, for driving, I'll share an experience. In cities and towns, I found it easy to drive on the left, because all the signs and traffic kept meu honest. It was when I got out to a lonely highway with a simple stripe down the middle that I had trouble. There was nothing to distinguish it from a U.S. back country road, except those idiots a few miles ahead coming at me in my lane...oh, wait...

    Aaron Parecki
    oh that sounds very stressful!

Ug. After I did all those .ics imports 😭
    Aaron Parecki
rookie move. That's why you gotta subscribe to the ics feed instead of import πŸ˜‰

But for real now I have to decide whether to go the full Mon-Fri (flying in on Sunday which I was really trying to not do this year) or join the OAuth one remotely 😬

The other day I added up that a β€œtypical” video takes somewhere between 17 and 20 hours from start to finish.

Very few free products would make that amount of time worth it.
    Aaron Parecki
and even then, it's only worth it if the product is something you actually end up using regularly, otherwise it just sits on a shelf I guess?

Why is it that every time I go to the @NotionHQ app, it's signed out. Such an awful experience. What's everyone using for personal notes that is comparable to Notion?
    Aaron Parecki
Oh hey here's the last time they responded to me about it. It's still the exact same situation as 2 years ago tho https://twitter.com/notionhq/status/1229948659455803394

I've actually had this argument with them a couple times, no luck so far. The worst is when I open Notion on a device when I'm nowhere near wifi and it's like nope nope

Do y'all write SQL any more? πŸ‘€ When's the last time you worked in a code base where you wrote raw SQL without the help of an ORM?
    Aaron Parecki
For anything beyond the most basic JOINs I go back to writing raw SQL, otherwise it takes me longer to figure out the obscure ORM syntax to get the right query

@aaronpk I'm curious, has anybody built some kind of "Hacker News for webmentions" that shows you a list of the content with the most mentions from around the web?
    Aaron Parecki
I built https://news.indieweb.org a long time ago to be exactly that! It even had upvoting via webmention, but I took that out a while ago. There's also https://indieweb.xyz with effectively subreddits

I managed to escape my last ...checks notes... 14 flights without catching it!

I've definitely been lurking on the likes. Some people forget that they're public so when I see they keep liking the "praise be to god" posts, it's pretty easy to tell how they feel about it.

I will not be applying to speak, or accept offers to speak at cons in states where they do not respect women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, or human rights in general. It may not be much of an impact, but is the least I can do as an ally to friends & family who have rights stripped away

I have no idea what to do or how to help and year after year of people being treated less than human has made me question my naive belief that if you just do the best you can to be kind and empathetic in your own life things will be ok. They won’t.

    Then others celebrate this.
    Aaron Parecki
Frankly I've been in a silent fit of rage watching the country regress, but I don't think I have anything particularly unique to add. So instead, I am favoriting tweets by others more well spoken to encourage the twitter algorithm to bubble them up to my followers

I had to hang out with people sometime ago. One guy recognized me asked me about my favorite tech, I said Mini 3 Pro, he began talking about China spying etc, I walked away and hung out with cows after that.

To be fair, we’re not considering whether the one digital twin can be used as the basis for creating personas - a not new concept that can manifest itself within the verifiable credentials model of operations.
The problem is that managing digital personas is exhausting.
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah I was on board with the premise, but jumping to "one identity for everything" probably isn't the best solution

It appears we have lost the value of the separation of the digital vs real me - me at Home, at Work, in my Gaming Community and many more I want to keep separate - sharing just my attributes should support this #identiverse
