Hm, weird, wonder if it updates at weird intervals or something.
    Aaron Parecki
It was hovering around that number during the stream too, really weird. I'm sure it's just some weird bug

@aaronpk Watching the recording of today’s livestream rn. I’ve seen reference to mystery low bitrates before from others. It’s certainly due to (nearly) static screens allowing the ATEM Mini’s encoder to reduce the bitrate dynamically without reducing perceptive quality, right?
    Aaron Parecki
Normally yes, and I regularly see low bitrates on my countdown screen and when sharing my computer screen. But it was showing that low bitrate even when it was on my regular video feed so it was definitely not encoding at that bitrate or it would have looked like trash.

Note to my fellow creators...don't release a video on the day of the Super Bowl unless it's about the Super Bowl. You'll regret it.
    Aaron Parecki
they scheduled the superbowl on my livestream day, I'm gonna do it anyway

How might I build a front end only Disqus-like comments section (i.e., add one line of JS, get comments on a page) with no centralized components, no blockchain, and no required authentication? Is there a decentralized key value store I'm missing?
    Aaron Parecki
If you had enough visitors always on the page you could "store" them in webtorrents, so that all the visitors to your site would be participating in storing all the comments.

Ended up getting an AJA KUMO 1616 12G instead. The VideoHub mod is expensive to ship and import to where I live. Very happy with the KUMO so far, it's small and fanless. It doesn't have any controls on the front panel, but the web interface and Companion do the job.
    Aaron Parecki
Ah very nice! I knew 16 wasn't going to be enough for me so I would have had to jump up to the 32x32 which is quite a bit more expensive

Sorting through my photo archives and it's possible that I may have traveled slightly too much in the past. Maybe.
    Aaron Parecki
    haha same.

Tangentially, what do you use for photo archives these days? I used to use Flickr extensively but I'm not super happy with it anymore.

One of my guilty pleasures is waiting until one of our cats yawns, and then sticking my finger just inside their mouth so they unintentionally bite down on it. They look so confused and nonplussed, every single time. Never gets old.

(I’m probably going to pet owner hell. 🤷‍♂️)

    Aaron Parecki
omg I do this too! 😅

I too was surprised this was still a thing. Do you have a link to what you saw in MDN? Always good to have supporting evidence from a respected source that can help.

I'm very passionate about the debate on whether HTML is a programming language. Specifically my position is fuck the guys who come into these discussions just to gatekeep "real programming" and die on this hill. Instablocked.
    Aaron Parecki
I saw this and was like "honestly there's no way people are going to be still arguing about this"

... then I read the replies and omfg! so many new people to add to my block list.

I also went to go fix the MDN definition but saw someone beat me to it 😅

@aaronpk thank you for all the great content on OAuth that you have published!
Question: is it a big deal that the @ietf OAuth 2.1 draft has expired?
    Aaron Parecki
Thanks! Not at all, I’m actually going to be publishing a new version today. It just means that work on it has slowed down over the last few months.

I'm hoping that it won't be too raw by the time we get to the but with Seattle in lockdown - we put off starting on it for quite a while

Hit the point in the pandemic where we rewatch iZombie. It is SO good. Definitely my favourite entry in the "misfit teams up with police to solve crimes" genre

The misfit is a zombie who works in the morgue and sees visions of what happened when she eats a murder victim's brains
    Aaron Parecki
We were in the middle of it and had to stop watching at the beginning of the pandemic. Has it been long enough that we can continue watching now? It gets dark.

I don't even know what Clubhouse is and I'm not sure I want to know.

    Aaron Parecki
on the other hand, it does sound like a fun challenge to re-implement it in the Fediverse world. Could probably be done with broadcasting join/leave events and using WebRTC for the audio call.

Implementing the Refresh Token Grant in my IndieAuth Server

    Aaron Parecki
This is great! I noticed you also did the “if the client doesn’t use the refresh token in 90 days it will expire” thing which I think is a great addition to the lifecycle.

Feeling about ready to stop throwing cash into the rental money void. But buying in the Bay Area just doesn’t feel worth it (and I’m not sure if I even have the means). And at the same time, as my parents get older and less healthy, I don’t want to be anywhere else.
    Aaron Parecki
tbh the solution is to stop thinking about it as a rental money void. owning property can also be a money pit and renting avoids all that
