Welp if I still had that Dogecoin from all those years ago, I'd have 11k today ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

    Aaron Parecki
In 2013 or so I traded all my Dogecoin and got 0.05 BTC which was worth $20 at the time. Now that BTC is worth $1800 but I lost the key ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

@aaronpk not sure if you meant "web view" as in embedded web view inside a native app - but if so that is not technically more secure. Launching a system browser prevents the calling app from keylogging in that web page.
    Aaron Parecki
I know you know me from a different context, but this is literally what I spend most of my time talking about ๐Ÿ™ƒ I have like a book and video course all about it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Concrete example of auth prompt from a desktop app (google drive connecter) that does NOT use the system browser.
Placing it in a tweet so that I have a URL for it in discussions.
    Aaron Parecki
That's interesting, most of the other Google stuff has been moving to web views, even the native calendar integration on macos now! I wonder if this just hasn't been updated yet.

Gotta go find the window with the right user profile first for that to work! (I have a work and personal chrome profile to keep bookmarks and history separate!)

I bought a tricked out mac mini to use as my main workstation. Maxed out the RAM to 32GB. The M1 has non-upgradable RAM so you're stuck with whatever you got from the factory.
    Aaron Parecki
Nice. I'm always on the fence about spending so much on Apple stuff. To get the kind of power I really want in a computer it ends up costing like $3k or more and I'm just not really comfortable spending that much.

I just bought a Mac Mini a year ago so am stuck with that for a while. Can't wait for the new M1 Mac Mini to support more RAM.
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah the current models are a bit disappointing, but I bought the cheapest one and I'm not planning on using it for very intensive stuff so I figured at that price why not.

So about 2 months ago I ordered the new MacBook M1 Air based on lots of your recommendations, and I have to say, as a lifelong Linux user: itโ€™s really nice! Iโ€™m using it as my personal laptop now and itโ€™s really growing on me: super fast, good UI, no compatibility issues so far.
    Aaron Parecki
Nice! I just got the M1 Mac Mini for my studio and I've been enjoying it too!

Are there any examples of codes of conduct for technical communities out there that specifically deal with bad-faith engagement โ€“ย trolling, gaslighting, sea-lioning, etc...? Asking for a consortium.

    Aaron Parecki
If you actually want some resources, the IndieWeb code of conduct has some of that as well as links and references to CoCs from other communities too https://indieweb.org/coc

    Aaron Parecki
There should be some info displayed on the screen if there's an error, feel free to open a new issue or drop by the chat with the details

it's convenient for that reason, for sure. I need to figure out how to print out an application and a new photo is the thing.
    Aaron Parecki
I took a photo of myself and printed it at home. I'm sure you could use one of those convenience store photo printer things too

oh god I need to renew my passport. how in the absolute hell am I going to do that.
    Aaron Parecki
I had to do that this year! It was entirely by mail! Took like 3 months turnaround in total, not bad. I figured if there was any time to not have my passport available...

One of the biggest issues I have with some folks in the #Indieweb community right now are the people who want to demetricate social media posts. My opinion on that, is that metrics aren't bad in themselves.
    Aaron Parecki
Frankly I agree, I find value in some metrics for various reasons, it's not always a bad thing. There also isn't a single #IndieWeb opinion on this kind of thing, which is the great part about the IndieWeb.

What is a food that you or your family eats such an inappropriate amount of that you get comments and side-eye every week from the cashier at the grocery store?
    Aaron Parecki
Habanero peppers, about a dozen every week, sometimes more. I buy so many I tell the cashiers the PLU because they never remember it.

Which display would you buy in that case?
    Aaron Parecki
Last time I bought a TV I found a "commercial display" which was the only way to get a not-smart TV. It's the kind of thing you'd buy for airports and bars. I bought this in like 2014 though and I'm hoping I don't have to replace it any time soon.

The @wirecutter recommends buying a @TCL_USA TV. I've never heard of TCL.

    I was considering a @SamsungUS QLED Q70T Series.

Am I off base? Should I follow the @wirecutter's recommendation?

    Aaron Parecki
Pretty sure they're all the same panels underneath. That said I still wouldn't buy any smart TV. Give me a big display and let me add the smarts in external devices instead.
