oh man if it is the 21st century it should be the 22nd year, right?

Also what week is it? By my count it's Week 4, but I started Week 1 on Sun, Dec 27.

The century started in 2001 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/21st_century

    @aaronpk 22nd year, right?

    Aaron Parecki
does nobody remember Y2K? There was a whole thing about whether that was the last year of the 20th century or the first year of the 21st. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/21st_century

@aaronpk Idk but I'd say the 21st century starts with the year 2000? I'd think it's the 22ed year of the 21st century, isn't it? πŸ€”

    Aaron Parecki
wasn't that the whole thing with Y2K which was that it wasn't actually the 21st century yet? Pretty sure the 21st century started in 2001 and 2000 was still the 20th century.

Stadia... console? I thought the whole idea of stadia was that it ran in your browser?... :think_bread:

    Aaron Parecki
I don't really know what I'm talking about in the gaming world. The box has a controller and a chromecast, so I don't think it needs a computer though?

100% makes sense. I wonder how we could report those kinds of stats in a more secure way? Although I’m inclined to think there probably can’t be a verifiable way to do it and maintain privacy, so maybe we should care less about these sorts of stats anyway πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
    Aaron Parecki
Yep, plus subscriber/follower count has definitely been the source of a lot of the terrible stuff on social media so I'm not sure it's even a good metric to try to recreate outside of a centralized system

Totally, for sure. And maybe if I was a nefarious feed reader startup founder I might do something like that!
    Aaron Parecki
Frankly that's the reason I never added it to Aperture and never recommended anyone else do either. It's a naive practice left over from a much more trusting era before people were thinking with a security mindset.

    3. Indieweb readers don't seem to announce the number of subscribers in HTTP GET calls, unlike other readers.
    4. Feedly seems to have an order of magnitude more users than any other reader (or for some reason my readers are all clustered there).
    Aaron Parecki
Also keep in mind that subscriber stats reported via user agent are 100% not a reliable source of info, I could make it look like Aperture has a million readers of your blog if you want

@aaronpk I was confused, did a search, and can only assume it’s the controller unless you mean something else new I can’t find???

I have it but have been underwhelmed because I’m not going to rebuy games on Stadia. Actual usage is good.

I also enjoy NVIDIA Shield and GeForce Now subscription to play all my Steam games.

    Aaron Parecki
Same, they sent it to me for free for some reason so I was curious. I'm gonna give it away though.

I signed up for FedEx and UPS delivery notifications to my address or whatever they call them, and now it's just a guess as to what will show up when I get a notification that something from "IMCLS" is arriving next week

UPDATE: It was a package from Google with the new Stadia console and Chromecast!

To transfer money to friends, I have to enter my bank password in all of these different origins (e.g. transferwife, google pay). The only line of defense seems to be SMS OTP verification. Shouldn't banks be the most advanced in online security?

@aaronpk I think I remember hearing on one of your streams that you replaced the fans in the Videohub 20x20, but I can't find any info on that on your channel, maybe I've missed it? I'm considering buying the Videohub, but noise is an issue for my use-case. Thanks!
    Aaron Parecki
Last week was the first time using it with the new fans, so I haven't talked about it much more than that yet! This is the mod kit for it though if you're interested https://store.nebtek.com/video-router/561-quiet-on-set-kit-bmd-20x20-videohub-mod.html It's not perfectly silent like the Hyperdeck mod, but it's still worth it

For sure, and I 100% agree with the matrix folks. Moxie's argument basically boils down to "it's easier to make the trains run on time with a centralized service." πŸ€”
    Aaron Parecki
Yep he's not wrong, and I understand that argument from a product design standpoint. But I also disagree with it for all the reasons in that Matrix post!

SimCity 2000 + SimCopter + Streets of SimCity was such a glorious trifecta from Maxis. Like... the fact that you could import your cities into the other two games and either fly around them doing rescue missions or drive around them blowing stuff up... incredible
