I just realized I never went jet-skiing with @johnhilltube because I never followed through booking a time after buying on groupon πŸ˜‘ UGH
Is why companies do groupon? It must happen all of the time
    Aaron Parecki
That happened to me with a helicopter ride like 10 years ago. I doubt that guy's going to accept my groupon anymore πŸ˜†

Dear Lazyweb: I want an IRC solution where I can leave a IRC-Client logged into several networks and connected 24x7 via a Raspberry Pi, and then variously connect a frontend to *that* (not tmux-ssh, preferably) from {laptop, desktop, etc} over a TCP* port.

    Suggestions?

    *Onion
    Aaron Parecki
This is literally the architecture of Weechat (IRC client) and Glowing Bear (frontend). This is my IRC setup that I live in every day.

    No lie.

My valedictorian sister made ramen from the pack.

The directions said to "boil 2 cups of water".

Next thing i hear is the tea kettle whistling.

She poured 2 cups of water into a tea kettle to boil it...πŸ™„
    Aaron Parecki
I mean that seems like a perfectly reasonable way to boil 2 cups of water

yesss thanks to this article from @aaronpk I managed to set up a little server that lets me put any service I want behind Mastodon's OAuth so that only people with a friend.camp login can see it. It works for web apps that don't know what OAuth is -- you are just kind of "gating" them so that any request to any URL for the app must be authorized first. A little like .htpasswd but for OAuth.

I'll write this up in detail later but Aaron's post has everything you need.

    Aaron Parecki
That's awesome! Glad you got it to work! I run an instance of this using Gitea login on my home network, it's great!

We did!! She is three months old but has only been with us for two days. Still very skittish but also clearly a sweetie. We are waiting to see her personality before giving her a name other than β€œkitten”. 😊

Each time I dispute a copyright claim, because I already paid for a commercial license through a third party site, the claim is released. But it's SUCH a waste of time to have to do this over and over for my older videos.
    Aaron Parecki
oof that is rough! I have always been worried about this from stock music websites. The other ones don't seem to have this problem, so that's good enough reason to not use @Pond5!

@aaronpk I got really inspired by your YouTube endeavors and high production quality within a short amount of time. I'm going a bit of a different route but still with video content:

Very excited to see this! I think people overestimate the complexity of hosting video files themselves, but it's really not that bad anymore! You don't need to run massive datacenters to host video unless you're running things at the scale of YouTube. I'm excited to see how you continue to experiment with this! I might even try to bake in some video delivery of my own videos from my website via ActivityPub too!
