    1/2

To my new friends in the Fediverse, who can help me with account naming advice? I setup an instance at a domain that seems reasonable and that I’d like to make the home to my identity: aaronklemm.me

Then I chose a username that seems reasonable, “aaron”. But when my name is already in the URL, this gets redundant and weird. @aaron@aaronklemm.me kinda stinks.

So I need a solution and here’s one idea...

    @amolith @Gargron @aaronpk
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah this is the problem with the forced email like naming scheme.

I went with my online username at my full domain, even if it's a bit redundant. The problem is that Mastodon assumes the domain name is not super relevant so it shows only the username part in the UI. If you use "social@" then people will refer to you as that on mastodon which looks weird. IMO there's no good solution, but the least bad solution is picking a username that you want people to use to identify you and stick that on your domain. That might even mean "aaronklemm@aaronklemm.me"

@zorn I’ll try to blog this up, actually. It’s the happiest & least overwhelmed I’ve been in... maybe forever.

Would you guys be interested in a fairly intensive video focused on how to colour match cameras manually? 🤔 Here's some samples I did today, each shot in their respective log profile. 🤓🤷‍♂️
    Aaron Parecki
For sure! I switch between Sony and Lumix all the time and I would love to have the colors match better.

Anyone got a good idea on providing a daily-digest email list? I already have a daily digest page on my blog http://monkinetic.blog/2020/04/20/

    Aaron Parecki
I keep thinking about hooking up Mailchimp to do that, they support creating an email from an RSS feed. It'll take some work to get my stuff formatted to work well in the RSS feed though.

Hey @aaronpk, is there a reason the device authorization grant doesn't specify long polling? Seems like potentially a lot of time and resources left on the table with interval polling.
    Aaron Parecki
There was some discussion on this a few years ago.

Generally, polling is not actually a resource problem (e.g. the YouTube app does it), and the simplicity of having just one method (polling) outweighed any theoretical benefits you'd get from long-polling or websockets.

I never realized how awesome faceID on iPhones was until I had to start wearing a mask
    Aaron Parecki
I've heard a rumor you can add your masked face as a second face to unlock the phone. I keep forgetting to try that myself.

@aaronpk I bought one of the new MacBook Airs, and thought, "This will be great when I take it out to cafés and... um."

I’m the only person I know who doesn’t have issues with the butterfly keyboard…yet. I feel like I’m living very dangerously.
    Aaron Parecki
Same! It's totally fine for me!

My problem is the keycaps on command and S and C wear off but it doesn't affect the functionality at all. Confuses the Apple techs every time, but they keep replacing it anyway.

@aaronpk I also wonder if the 13” would get bumped up to 14” rather than shrunk down to 12”, to match the 15” that got bumped up to 16”. 🤷‍♂️

    Aaron Parecki
Yeah I'm not optimistic there will ever be a smaller than 13" MacBook again, since they are bumping up the specs of iPads so much

@aaronpk It would seem they’d have to update the 13” MacBook Pro to match its updated 16” counterpart sometime soon?

    Aaron Parecki
I'm secretly hoping they put out a matching update to the 16" but in a 12" form factor. I would be all over that in a second.

    Aaron Parecki
and when I do get back on the road I can remote desktop into it from an iPad or something right? just means no offline development

Their regular laptops are getting so thin and light, they probably don’t see a large market size for an ultra book now.

But my favorite computer ever was my 11” Air.

Sometimes I use my iPad mini and keyboard for similar effect.
    Aaron Parecki
The 11" Air was also my favorite! Tho this 12" is actually smaller form factor but has a larger screen so it's nice. I just wish it was a liiiitle faster, even if it had to be a little thicker.

I’m going to ask my colleagues. We do mostly golang, React & Ember. That fit your profile?
    Aaron Parecki
For me it's: PHP, nginx (custom-compiled), MySQL (MariaDB), Redis, Ruby (multiple versions), Node, in that order.
