What turns me off the most is that web1 was about people being excited to share information in new (and free) ways, while web3 appears to be mostly about money and land grabs and gambling. It’s almost like web3 is the gross capitalist dystopian alternate ending to web1.

The web was already a massive decentralization compared to the "online services" model like Compuserve and Delphi.

Just implement many many good independent websites that aren't Facebook and Amazon.

I talk all the time to artists who say “I just want to support my work, and it seems like there’s an audience.” or individuals who say “I found a nice, welcoming community that’s having fun talking about art and tech.” Those are reasonable views. And we should engage with them.

I think one of the hugest things web3 people seem to be confused about is that somehow building systems that expect less trust will fundamentally fix problems of trust – it's a nihilist approach to systems engineering that speaks more to their psychology than any sound theory

If there's a "thing" you can point to and there's global consensus about it, it's centralized. I'm sorry, I don't make the rules, just stating scientific facts.

True decentralization doesn't involve a conceptually centralized blockchain, change my mind.
