Meet Aaron @aaronpk (on the left). He's been in charge of talk videos at #ML4ALL and working really hard all day for 3 days! He's the best, because talks are being uploaded to ML4ALL YouTube lightning fast. Another fun fact, he's using cargo bike to carry all his video equipment!

What we didn't know: Since many years there is an independent, general and open specification for RSVPs on the web: https://indieweb.org/rsvp. It allows people to RSVP to your events just using their social channels. Awesome! E.g. used by https://2019.indieweb.org/berlin @indiewebcamp

Marco Arment made some good arguments for keeping podcasting open versus what Spotify and others are trying to do these days. Worth a read: https://marco.org/2019/04/27/overcast-clip-sharing

  • About Luminaryโ€™s $100 million: many of us are working 7 days a week on a tiny budget to build something we think is important, and Luminary and the like will light VC checks on fire to burn the podcast industry down around them if it means the chance to monetize an open platform.

Chris Aldrich mentioned it was his #indieweb anniversary today, which made me wonder when I first encountered indieweb. Turns out it was six years ago! I remember being excited about the idea of federated comments. I had no idea I would be getting involved with the community for years to come, though. In that time, I've organized some meetups, traveled to several IndieWebCamps, and even co-organized an IndieWebCamp. I've met a lot of great people through it all and have had a lot of fun. I've made some good improvements to my site and learned things that have helped my professional web work, too.

You should join us! Check out indieweb.org, say hello in the chat, and join us at the IndieWeb Summit this June in Portland.
