I'm thinking about getting the Hue smart bulbs for my bedroom because it seems like it would help to be able to dim and brighten the lights around bed time and waking. Anyone using them or other smart bulbs? Thoughts?

    Aaron Parecki
Hue bulbs are my fav, because they don't rely on the internet to work, everything runs locally in your house network. I've been using them for like 6-7 years now!

@aaronpk but being on plane internet is such a reliable excuse for not joining any conference calls

Yeah that may be easiest 😭 I was hoping there was some service that allows unauthenticated requests but with arbitrary paths cause then you could write to like http://example.com/longrandomstringthatisasecret/key = value. But mebbe I don't understand exactly
    Aaron Parecki
    lol twitter autolinked that.

    /longrandomstringthatisuniqueperapp/key = value

I'm regretting not just standing up a server with a single endpoint at this point lol

I feel like if I explained what I'm doing you'd understand why I'm so limited, but I really only need to store a single thing and the simplest solution at this point if mLab doesn't work for it is to write my own service on my own db πŸ˜‚
    Aaron Parecki
tbh it sounds like the simplest thing is to have each app generate its own long random string and use that as basically the key for writing and reading data. And this coming from someone who is clearly a fan of OAuth.

I have this same problem. It's never worked for me when switching timezones, unless I very carefully choose when I sync with the phone and when I change my timezone. It overwrites data if I don't do it carefully.

I should work on properly ingesting Twitter links so I can fully own my likes, reshares and replies on that site. For now, I need to look into a β€œsilo-based translator” to the IndieWeb.

I stopped favoriting things directly on Twitter a long time ago! I always favorite stuff because either it shows up in my reader and it's just one click, or on the off chance I do click on a tweet, my browser bookmarklet also gives me one click access to favorite something. Way easier than trying to pull my Twitter favs back from their site.

It was packed in here a couple hours ago, couldn't even get the bartender's attention. But now is completely empty.

Hi, I'm Aaron Parecki, Director of Identity Standards at Okta, and co-founder of IndieWebCamp. I maintain oauth.net, write and consult about OAuth, and participate in the OAuth Working Group at the IETF. I also help people learn about video production and livestreaming. (detailed bio)

I've been tracking my location since 2008 and I wrote 100 songs in 100 days. I've spoken at conferences around the world about owning your data, OAuth, quantified self, and explained why R is a vowel. Read more.
