A friend just shared a line from a student paper, "Despite being made in the late 1900s, many of the themes of The Matrix are still relevant today" and I can literally feel my body decaying in the grave.

@aaronpk Simple setup. Small monitor, but I didn't need monitor accessory to attach to top bar. Getting 1" HDMI for the monitor and some rubber feet. Will expand as needed, but this does the trick for now. Thanks!

    Byeeeee 👋🏻
Thank y’all for letting me know what happens when you deactivate. I’m testing it this month to ensure I can still do work related tasks. I’ll likely leave it deactivated if so!

Congrats! And when you’re ready to make it a bit more permanent, try this! https://aaronparecki.com/2020/06/14/14/how-to-leave-facebook I left last year and haven’t looked back!

Tbf my takeaway wasn't that they invented it, only that they whipped up something blockchain-y for marketing artistic items during a hackathon a few years ago and NFTs are still basically it
    Aaron Parecki
Normally I'd be inclined to agree with you, but his tweet is pretty clear:

"When we created the first NFTs back in 2014..."

You can feel free to read it as “when we created one early implementation of an idea lots of folks were thinking about, which had many antecedents and subsequent innovations”. It’s just a tweet, I didn’t think about it that much.

Fair. As I said that was my takeaway from the article where there's no mention of "novelty". I agree that the tweet isn't consistent with that reading, but it might just be a thoughtless typing moment

Just 6 days til we launch preorders for the new PK1 Extreme stand for the ATEM Mini Extreme! In my latest YouTube livestream I gave a sneak peek of the prototype and shared how I engineered this "by feel" instead of using real math. #pk1stand

That seems a bit much. Got a link to that video?
    Aaron Parecki
from the research I have done, it's a tool youtube provides that you can use to be in compliance with your local laws. e.g. if you don't disclose a paid promotion in the content of your video you can check that box to show it on the screen instead.

Problem is, “paid promotion” is pretty ambiguous. And, does checking that box affect YouTube’s algorithm to share your video? Or change the ads it runs, or your potential to earn revenue?
    Aaron Parecki
It's super ambiguous, mainly because the definition varies significantly by country. It's anyone's guess whether The Algorithm takes that checkbox into account. 🤷‍♂️

The YouTube video seems to indicate that even if the company didn’t pay but provided the product for free, you’re supposed to check the box.
    Aaron Parecki
my understanding of the FTC's rules is that you need to clearly disclose when you get something of value, whether cash or a product. They don't specify what form that disclosure should take, so either verbal at the beginning of the segment or checking that box is fine.
