Is it even possible to buy a TV that isn't smart? I want a screen I can plug things in to, not a computer with a terrible UI I can't change

I do my best work when I'm procrastinating on other projects. Is there some way to capitalize on that?

  • HTML is my API

In August 2012, I wrote a quick script to stream front-page Hackernews stories to an IRC channel on Freenode. It broke after 2.5 years, at which point I switched to their new JSON API. That one broke after 2 days. Here is how we can fix this.

Well that was unsettling. Was harshly woken up by the sound of crackling and my lights flickering, then a pop and the apartment went dark. In a half-awake stupor I was confused why one of my lights was still working. Took me a while to realize it was only the circuit for my outlets that had tripped.

I tried to reset the breaker, but it snapped again immediately after I turned it back on. So my thought is something on the circuit has shorted, or I've just overloaded that circuit.

Either way, I can'e believe they built a brand new building and put all the plugs in this apartment on a single 15-amp circuit. Seems like it wouldn't have been that much harder to at least split it into two!

It's amazing how incremental progress all adds up after a while. @bmndr is the only reason I've made this much progress on this book.

Hi, I'm Aaron Parecki, Director of Identity Standards at Okta, and co-founder of IndieWebCamp. I maintain oauth.net, write and consult about OAuth, and participate in the OAuth Working Group at the IETF. I also help people learn about video production and livestreaming. (detailed bio)

I've been tracking my location since 2008 and I wrote 100 songs in 100 days. I've spoken at conferences around the world about owning your data, OAuth, quantified self, and explained why R is a vowel. Read more.
