It's v. funny that everything predicted about this place is coming true

    • Blue checks almost exclusively bought by slimy loud chuds who previously made fun of them for years, ruining the market for good folks

Lots of boomers showing up to protest but folks, if you loved how Ronald Reagan lowered your tax rates, then yes, you voted to convert cities to suburbs, whether you understand how government works, or not.

It was just coded so sloppily it's counting internal service loads (even if they don't actually show the tweet to a person, Twitter passes the tweet around its various services aka internal systems) as "views"

New YouTube music licensing email I got. 👀
    Aaron Parecki
This terrifies me. What happens when they later cancel the program? I don't want to have to fight with big record labels to show that I did in fact have a proper license. I suspect in 5-7 years there will be a big mess from this.

This was me, my 6.5-year stint at Twitter comes to an end today. Proud of the work we did and have full confidence the three or four people left will be able to honor Elon’s requests to artificially inflate his view counts (and view counts for advertisers). Not me though 🫡

Elon flips shit on an employee who politely told him that the views feature isn’t broken, he just doesn’t have enough clout.

I came to this story because a source at Twitter messaged me and said “he really did fire an engineer for telling the truth” 😵

In sum, our self-driving future involves far more car travel and sprawl, with trips that are private rather than shared.

From a climate perspective, that’s deeply concerning.

But I'm definitely on board for just a weekly hack & chat situation. Did that for a long time in PDX, and it brings back some fond memories of hanging with folks like @Wraithan @thoward37 @aaronpk. We called it SePoCoNi - Southeast Portland Coders Night, and had coffee/beer/food.

We wanted to understand why Elon Musk's decision to turn Twitter into an unusable hellscape might make good financial sense. So we talked to three unvaccinated Joe Rogan users at a Tesla charging station in Mountain View.

YouTubers - PSA - Create a brand new email account and Move your YouTube channel to that account.
Don't tell a single person what the email address for that account is.

Too many people are getting hacked at the moment.
    Aaron Parecki
This is a good idea, but isn't going to prevent the most common of these attacks right now, which is getting you to open a file they send over email. It doesn't matter what email they send it to if you download the trojan and run it.

Lots to think about when it comes to AI/ChatGPT for lawyers but one thing that keeps popping into my mind is the importance of "authority."

Many things will become easier but sources of authority (when ChatGPT can just make it up) will become more important than ever.

I'm amused that Google announced Bard (which is not yet available), and the internet's response was to go back and forth between "congratulations on 'having been working on this for years and still being late to market'" and taking bets until how long it is until it gets whacked.
