  • How to create a keyboard shortcut to export the current slide in Keynote

Lately I've been using Apple Keynote to create graphics for using in videos and blog posts. It's a quick way to arrange things on a page, copying and pasting most things just works, and there are enough built in shapes and tools to get the point across. However, after spending a full day creating graphics for a video, I found myself frustrated by the number of clicks required to export a single slide at a time.

    No prob, man :)

And, if you want it to not do the "unskip" thing, just comment-out lines 39-41

    Aaron Parecki
Yeah that's tricky, because if you don't skip all but the selected slide, then it exports all of them. Ideally there should be an AppleScript action for exporting only the selected slides, but I don't think that exists.

I forgot that I already had an AppleScript action in @KeyboardMaestro that does this 🤦‍♂️

    https://share.cleanshot.com/Dp6XLS7MGnjzg0TRkwsq

I made an "App: Keynote" folder that only activates for that app

That AppleScript is exactly what I was looking for, thank you! ✨

The only minor inconvenience is that it sets all slides to unskipped afterwards, but that's fine for how I'm using it in this case!

    Brace yourself.

One of the most brutal Arctic cold outbreaks on record is gathering momentum and moving through North America right now.

Wind chills are hitting extremely dangerous levels of -70°F (-57°C) in Wyoming.

I definitely can do it. As for stopping clicks from working, I actually can't do that, so I'm not entirely sure what happened. Ask on the forum (https://forum.keyboardmaestro.com/) if you need some help making the macro.
    Aaron Parecki
Alright I will give it a try!

@KeyboardMaestro, my friend. It can do the most amazing things… Like make that sort of click-heavy task a mere keystroke
    Aaron Parecki
Well that was a massive fail. I tried it, but I don't think it can get into the specific bits needed to make that work in Keynote. Then it took over my computer and they keyboard and most clicks stopped working. Had to restart.

I've been making so many graphics in Keynote lately for use in videos and blog posts, but I really wish there was a quick keyboard shortcut to export the current slide as a PNG. Right now it takes about 9 clicks to export a slide.

It’s long overdue and much needed. As drivers, we’ve been getting off way too easy As long as the tolling revenue doesn’t pay for freeway expansion and actually helps take cars off the road, I’m all for it!

I don’t now about you Jason, but in my experience when an engineer says to you, “I think we should totally rewrite this part of the codebase” I always think to myself “this will speed things up” and not “okay we’ve just lost a year on someone’s passion project”.

okay, surprise twist! the support person hit me up a day later and said they talked to their boss on my behalf. they sent me my activation key!

this was a very pleasant turn of events and I’m back in the Blackmagic fan camp (though I’d still love to see more modern key mgmt)

He’s still a hacker but we’re channeling that into building hydraulic arms. Creating mazes. Cardboard structures. And lots and lots of reading. Now that he reads he can mostly do @kiwico_inc tinker crates by himself.

These days he’s mostly channeling this energy for good. He’s reading a JS book @sarah_edo lent me and quizzes me on how JS vars work. 😂 He loves it when I make a mistake.

don't inconvenience yourself too much, but if you've got the spare cycles: I have my serial numbers for the speed editor and Resolve Studio license and this is a ~2-week-old purchase — it feels like this would be a very easy fix for them if they wanted it to be
