I've been making so many graphics in Keynote lately for use in videos and blog posts, but I really wish there was a quick keyboard shortcut to export the current slide as a PNG. Right now it takes about 9 clicks to export a slide.

Yeah that's tricky, because if you don't skip all but the selected slide, then it exports all of them. Ideally there should be an AppleScript action for exporting only the selected slides, but I don't think that exists.

No prob, man :) And, if you want it to not do the "unskip" thing, just comment-out lines 39-41 gist.github.com/chris-79/4ffb9…

That AppleScript is exactly what I was looking for, thank you! ✨ The only minor inconvenience is that it sets all slides to unskipped afterwards, but that's fine for how I'm using it in this case!

Ditto! I often use Keynote to make graphics. Much quicker than Illustrator

Also, you may not have noticed it in the video, but I have folder for "Common Typos" that saves me a bunch of frustration lol I even made a KM shortcut that deletes threads in the Google Voice web interface (since you always have to "confirm" each deletion… so annoying)

I forgot that I already had an AppleScript action in @KeyboardMaestro that does this 🤦‍♂️ share.cleanshot.com/Dp6XLS7MGnjzg0… I made an "App: Keynote" folder that only activates for that app gist.github.com/chris-79/4ffb9…

@aaronpk it's probably doable with AppleScript, but I haven't used AppleScript in probably 20 years to know for sure

I definitely can do it. As for stopping clicks from working, I actually can't do that, so I'm not entirely sure what happened. Ask on the forum (forum.keyboardmaestro.com) if you need some help making the macro.

@aaronpk Uh oh. I had a quick look at that export and could see the stumbling block with choosing PNG rather than JPG. My expertise ran out on that one but if you wanted to persevere there's a Forum where someone would know how to do it.

@aaronpk If you're a Mac user this is where Keyboard Maestro really earns its keep. Set up the steps then assign a trigger — could be a keystroke, or click a button, for example. I have all kinds of things set up in KM that work like that.

Well that was a massive fail. I tried it, but I don't think it can get into the specific bits needed to make that work in Keynote. Then it took over my computer and they keyboard and most clicks stopped working. Had to restart.

@KeyboardMaestro, my friend. It can do the most amazing things… Like make that sort of click-heavy task a mere keystroke

@aaronpk Keynote as a vector drawing tool is vastly under-rated

@aaronpk Agree. I usually just go into presentation mode and screenshot.
