    YouTubers…
What are you doing to help with audio when you have to film with hardwood floors? I put an area carpet in my new office but this house just has different acoustics…

Anything I need to know? Thanks!

Definitely a rug, and then lots of stuff everywhere to break up the flat surfaces of the walls. If you want to, put fancy sound panels on the walls and ceilings, but if you can't, just filling the walls with shelves and decorations will help.

I added a fax machine emoji after my 1st name on @LinkedIn (because I was getting an absurd amount of recruiter messages daily) and I'm now LOLing at the amount of automated messages calling me "Chloe 📠" or "Chloe ?".

Does Apple even let you publish something like that on their store? I saw that GPSLogger gave up on the Google Play store. I appreciate the privacy concerns with trackers but it'd be nice to have an exception for these "this data is for you" as opposed to adware.
    Aaron Parecki
There's a ton of apps like this, I don't think it's a problem. Someone ported my iOS app to Android recently even. Also from what I read in (your!) HN thread, the reason it was removed from the Google Play store had nothing to do with privacy? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24735159

You sure thats the case? I have 1tb drive space on my mini and Xcode 13.2 took an hour to DL and actually never finished. Went on forever until I redefined forever to be Stop & End!
    Aaron Parecki
I mean my laptop has 14gb free right now and XCode is 12.6gb. I did just see all the headlines about issues with XCode 13.2 so I guess I'm gonna put off this project until they get that sorted out.

It's been over 3 years since I've published an update for Overland, my GPS tracker app, and I am a little terrified to re-download XCode and see how much work it's going to take to even make it compile now 😬 https://overland.p3k.app
    Aaron Parecki
also my poor little M1 MacBook Air doesn't have enough disk space to even download XCode, so I guess I'm gonna do that on an older computer. or buy a bigger macbook

What turns me off the most is that web1 was about people being excited to share information in new (and free) ways, while web3 appears to be mostly about money and land grabs and gambling. It’s almost like web3 is the gross capitalist dystopian alternate ending to web1.

The web was already a massive decentralization compared to the "online services" model like Compuserve and Delphi.

Just implement many many good independent websites that aren't Facebook and Amazon.

I talk all the time to artists who say “I just want to support my work, and it seems like there’s an audience.” or individuals who say “I found a nice, welcoming community that’s having fun talking about art and tech.” Those are reasonable views. And we should engage with them.

I think one of the hugest things web3 people seem to be confused about is that somehow building systems that expect less trust will fundamentally fix problems of trust – it's a nihilist approach to systems engineering that speaks more to their psychology than any sound theory

If there's a "thing" you can point to and there's global consensus about it, it's centralized. I'm sorry, I don't make the rules, just stating scientific facts.
