anyway, i think that social media silos of all kinds (including and especially twitter) are bad, and that people should instead publish their views on their own websites. if only there were a specification that allowed for people to easily do that...

Gosh. Whoever made that list must've been mean.

I know, that guy is a real jerk. At least we never have to hear from him again.

The contacts list in my phone is not a list of my friends. There are people on that list that I never want to hear from and that I would prefer not to have any information about what I'm doing. I will never want to send an invite to anything to my contacts list.

I wish @aaronpk 's Watchtower/Aperture/Monocle was much simpler to install for anyone:

    Aaron Parecki
‪Me too! I've been thinking about rolling Watchtower into Aperture so it's just one app. Aperture is based on Laravel so there's plenty of tools and support for deploying that already. It's just a *lot* of work simplifying and documenting this stuff to make it easier for others.

You raise a good point :) but I don’t think I ever witnessed anyone GTFO’ing a Zoom without excusing themselves...
    Aaron Parecki
You are clearly on much smaller zoom meetings than I am 😅

I have been in meetings in which someone left slamming the door or similar shenanigans: but I have *NEVER* seen anything equivalent in Zoom.
Is it the medium, or just different circumstances? What’s your experience?
    Aaron Parecki
wait how do you make a sound loud enough to be recognized as a door slam while also actually leaving the meeting? It's a lot easier to just quietly disappear from a zoom

I had a gig in Hawaii cancel right as Covid hit. I personally HATE travel for work. The Pamdemic has shown me I don’t need to travel ever again.

    And I’m happy about it.
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah Pam has shown me that I don't *need* to travel for work, but sometimes it's fun and I want to do the fun parts of it again

A small update to this. The day after my twitter thread about @ICANN I finally got a reply to one of my many e-mails. Quote: "I apologize for our delay in getting back to you" (aka: Thanks for retweeting). And today we had a voice chat about the application. Another thread!

At the end you say to use local validation in the API gateway and "if" a particular API requires, then do the remote. Are you implying there are cases the resource server does not need to do any validation at all if the gateway already handles it?
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah, super context dependent of course, but imagine a read-only API method for returning the user's rewards points balance. Not terribly sensitive info, not likely to change often. The gateway validation is likely good enough.

We literally have RSS email broadcasts set up for THIS EXACT REASON. So people can be notified when a new recipe is posted. It’s direct from us to them without some dick taking advantage of us in the middle.

On this day last year I woke up at 3:45am to get on a plane to New York to go give a presentation the next day, then fly to Dallas, then Houston, returning home on Thursday. I haven't been on a plane since then.
