    I felt spammy trying to hire people on the internet. So Iโ€™m trying a different recruiting strategy! ๐Ÿงท

    I bought 40 cans of SPAM from Safeway, created labels with generic recruiter copy, and put them on shelves all over the city.

    Hoping the right candidate finds one and replies.

    I really, really hate it when people use @channel and @here on slack. The notification comes in, and I get all excited that someone wants to talk to me, but as it turns out, no, I was just in the room when someone was shouting.

    I encourage anyone beguiled by Tim Berners-Lee's proposal for a "Contract with the Web" to click through and read the source. It is a thick conceptual gumbo created by committee, exactly the thing the web was not. No wonder big tech has signed onto it. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/24/opinion/world-wide-web.html

    Do you have a pointer to a "Hello world" example? Something like, turn a light on at 07:00? I think I have Node Red installed, but it's very unclear how it's connected to HA.
    Aaron Parecki
    I know it's a long video, but this is the best crash course I found on it. https://youtu.be/SuoSXVqjyfc It's worth watching that because it'll intro you to all the terminology and the way of thinking that Node Red requires.

    2000 should not be in that progression. That's on the Windows NT line that goes 3, 3.1, 3.5, 4, 2000. So, treating XP = 6 goes pretty well. ME was a minor upgrade to 98, so that's 5.5.

    It's the language for constructing automations in "home assistant".
    Aaron Parecki
    haha yeah this is exactly why I got rid of all my automations in home assistant and moved them into Node Red

    Microsoft shouldn't be seen as an example for good numbering. Leaving off the non numeric versions you get:

    1, 2, 3, 3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, 2000, 7, 8, 8.1, 10...
    Aaron Parecki
    I never realized it before but that explains how they jumped to 7...

    95 = 4
    98 = 5
    2000 = 6

    Video started off at 16 minutes 30 seconds after the initial rough cut and after the second pass is 12 minutes 47 seconds and I feel MUCH better about it.

    Hopefully YouTube will feel the same way ๐Ÿคฃ

    why yes I did just plug a USB-C hard drive into a USB-A port and was confused why the computer didn't recognize it.

    I blame the fact that I just got off a 14 hour flight.

    Ok awesome, I used to use a micro way back in the day and thought it worked well for what it was.

    Might have to buy one of the Lโ€™s

    Thanks Dave ๐Ÿ‘

    If you get it you should do a comparison video between that and the built in mic. The iPhone mics have gotten surprisingly good, and I think you'll really only do better with a shotgun in noisy environments like expo hall floors.

    I think the most frustrating thing with Windows machines is it's not really plug and play. There are some things that need to be changed from the get but once you get over that you have so much great hardware to explore. Gonna make a starter pack blog post about this ๐Ÿคฃ
    Aaron Parecki
    Please do! I just started using Windows again after about 10 years so I'm a bit out of touch.
