  • Micropub is a W3C Recommendation

I'm excited to announce that Micropub is now a W3C Recommendation! It's been a long road, but we made it! This is the final stage in the W3C spec lifecycle, and means that the spec has gone through several stages of review, and all parts of the spec have been implemented by at least two people.

Opened the Mac App Store for the first time in months. There's a $30 app for writing Medium posts. Backing away slowly.

@benwerd That's... amazing. Too bad they don't support Micropub cause then I might be tempted 😉

i read about your reasoning and it sounds like you've built a cool real-time dashboard around IRC - any suggestion for mac/web clients? thx!
    Aaron Parecki
@brianjesse I mostly use https://www.glowing-bear.org on iOS/mac which is a web client. Limechat is also good.

All the public Movim feeds can be exported to Atom XML feeds https://nl.movim.eu/?feed/pubsub.movim.eu/Movim . Is his format an IETF one? I prefer to stick to Internet standards and not use some indie protocols and formats for now (especially regarding the support/breaking compatibility…)

Adding Microformats makes the W3C Webmention protocol super useful. For example, here are a bunch of my replies to posts on all sorts of different social networks, all because they support Microformats and Webmention: https://aaronparecki.com/replies?before=20170522T074418%2B0200

We'd need a way to 1) authenticate and verify a user and 2) programmatically post comments to blogs regardless of their comment system.

Going to look at this more in depth shortly. Is the standard stable enough to implement now? Has buy in been promising?
    Aaron Parecki
@postleafapp There's a bunch of individual websites that support it, as well as a handful of CMSs like https://withknown.com and Wordpress

@postleafapp Great! Yes, it's been in development for a few years, and reached @w3c Recommendation status in January.

Thanks - I'm talking more about the server-side implementation for building the feeds and receiving the Webmentions... will that be open?
    Aaron Parecki
@ummjackson I don't think they're planning on making it open source. Plenty of OSS code for Webmentions here tho https://indieweb.org/Webmention-developer

Anyone in the IndieWeb space know if http://micro.blog is going to be an OSS protocol vs. a closed source company?
    Aaron Parecki
@ummjackson You can use the micro.blog iOS app to post to your own Micropub website, and the site also sends Webmentions!
