@aaronpk Great Success! More stuff you don't have to pack and move into the ADU โ€ผ๏ธ

I actually first stuck them all in a box and then was like wait maybe I don't need these anymore! ๐Ÿšฎ

    @aaronpk donโ€™t rate-limit my leftovers!

I swear microwave UX design got forked in an alternate reality in the 1980s and has kept evolving in its own timeline since

@aaronpk While not much is less appealing than an IOT microwave, _maybe_ one would solve my gripes? Or possibly just create new ones.

    Aaron Parecki
at this point, my criteria for microwaves is whether I can press the +30s button repeatedly. My current microwave makes you wait 2 seconds after each button press to add 30s at a time and it's infuriating.

@aaronpk Same! I have had to break out a USB B cable to do network reconfigure a couple times. But Brother seem to actually respect their customers.

    Aaron Parecki
Ironically the USB-B cable method didn't work today, even when I busted out my windows laptop to run their windows config app. I ended up having to recreate the previous wifi SSID that it was connected to and then I used the web interface to enable the ethernet port again.

@aaronpk I still love my Brother laser printer.

    Aaron Parecki

@aaronpk for printers, I always leave set to DHCP and then assign a static IP from the router.

That way. When it inevitably breaks, there's less to touch in the printer settings (and it's more likely to come back online)

    Aaron Parecki
My problem was the printer was previously configured for wifi and the ethernet jack was disabled. Still can't believe recreating the wifi SSID was the solution

@aaronpk I canโ€™t decide who I dislike more. The Product Managers in charge of printers, or microwave ovens.

    Aaron Parecki
ok right? Why hasn't someone designed a microwave oven that makes sense??

@aaronpk I tried using a raspberry pi zero to connect our old printer to the lan. Though it worked, the CUPS drivers were rough, the margins were never right, and it was just miserable. Iโ€™ve since been using an old 2007 macbook in clamshell mode with the wan disabled to print share the printer to the network. Other than when ink needs replacing, itโ€™s working surprisingly well.

    Aaron Parecki
    wow that's a real commitment

@aaronpk Lol, Iโ€™m trying to talk my partner into it. It doesnโ€™t help that Prusa makes two of the picks on https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-home-3d-printer/, and we have a friend who just moved down there.

    Aaron Parecki
Honestly it's a great printer. My first printer was the Prusa Mini and I had a great experience with it not knowing anything about 3D printing before.

One is a slightly longer train ride from Skagit, WA than the other.

If you really are coming down from Skagit to pick it up I'll take $100 off the price to cover your train ticket

    So close...

    #signInWithMastodon #pixelfed

    Aaron Parecki
I know you're close with this but I'd love to get you and the Mastodon devs in a room to show you how much better this could be with IndieAuth instead of Mastodon's own OAuth API. That'd also mean you'd instantly support signing in with any other site that supports IndieAuth instead of hardcoding this to Mastodon
