@aaronpk a Freudian slip that puts sparkling wine in the feminine category?

    Aaron Parecki
Quite possibly! They did all seem very stressed out today

But also wtf @AmericanAir what's the point in buying a Premium Economy ticket if you don't serve bubbly, and also ran out of the IPA that's on the menu before the plane even took off
    Aaron Parecki
very whining on the yacht problem I know, but it's been a long day and it's going to be another long day before I actually get home

I've always thought I present pretty clearly as cisgender male, but this flight attendant just told me "no ma'am" when I asked if they had any sparkling wine on board 🤷‍♂️

Remember when "web 2.0" spawned a series of life/activity tracker apps that aggregated all of your online activity? Tweets, checkins, blog posts, music you're listening to, etc all colocated in a stream.

I...want that again. Does anyone know if things like that still exist?
    Aaron Parecki
I don't think the business models of those ever panned out. Plus several platforms (ahem Instagram, and now Twitter as well) have been getting more hostile about allowing any data export.

The most time-consuming part of any development work I do is inevitably the research

Need to implement OAuth 2 for something? I'll spend WAY more time researching the details of what that involves than actually writing the code for it

ChatGPT... does 80% of that research for me
    Aaron Parecki
I hope it's better now, but a while ago I was asking it OAuth questions and it was hallucinating all sorts of ridiculous things about it.

There’s this service called “Block the Blue” that just automatically blocks people who pay for Twitter Blue. !’m considering using it. Does anyone know if there’s a way to see if anyone you follow is a Blue subscriber?

    On Mac it’s very easy
    Aaron Parecki
    🤯

I had to go into advanced settings and turn on "timezone override" before that option was available but that's exactly what I wanted! Thanks!

Essential. @flexibits Fantastical (Mac and iOS) is my pick and has this.
    Aaron Parecki
So actually Fantastical is my main calendar on Mac and iOS, and all I can figure out is showing the second timezone on the right side of the view and showing the time zones in an event. But I want to quickly switch the entire calendar back and forth

    iCal has this I think?
    Aaron Parecki
This is promising. On iOS you have to dig in to the settings app to change it though.

You can do this with Google calendar, I have recently learned.
    Aaron Parecki
I know a few apps have dual timezone support, which works fine for small differences like west coast east coast, but doesn't work well once you're crossing the date line

Would you agree that the solution is still:
    - Sock puppet accounts for the "key holders."
    - A Chromebook only used for email/sponsors that aren't logged into the YouTube channel or anything else. If you cannot use a Chromebook, use a Mac.

    Security requires inconvenient… https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1639032681454522368
    Aaron Parecki
Ultimately the problem is running apps from the attacker. A ChromeBook (or an iPad) is a great way to not have to worry about that. The malware could also be possible on a Mac, so for either Mac/Windows, just be careful to never open attachments outside the browser.

This is a much better response with valuable data that we can all gain from! Good job.

As for your skepticism, I can only say that it's the same thing I've been seeing for the past few years with the same outcome (the fake Tesla crypto scam live streams), so I have little reason… https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1639030922115977216
    Aaron Parecki
I just woke up to this news and I 100% agree this is the same thing that's been happening to others.

Just because Google has added additional protection measures doesn't mean they have prevented 100% of cases.

There is also almost no other way this scale of attack can happen.

I’m not sure if this is by design, but your photos don’t seem to come through in your RSS feed. Just a heads up.

I don't know if I would call it "by design", but my RSS (actually Atom) feed is really meant for just my blog posts. You'll get a better result following my other posts from the higher fidelity Microformats or JSONFeed

I do feel like a dirty YouTuber jumping on the ‘trend’ with Mr McKinnon but daaaamn. The video is doing well ha.

I won’t make a habit of it. It doesn’t really offer much value to anyone, but sometimes it’s nice to get an ‘easy’ win.
    Aaron Parecki
    Take the win!

But also, does he really edit his own videos still? I would have assumed he had hired that out long ago by now.

It's odd what the web has decided are worthy to be native, usable, out of the box controls and what aren't. Like buttons, images, checkboxes, dropdowns... people should have those. But progress bars, tabs, segmented controls, real lists/grids, loading spinners... nobody needs those. They're even taking more native controls away, like the input/alert modals. I know I look at web development through a native developer lens, and wish the web was as good as native development, but it's still interesting to think about.
    Aaron Parecki
There is a new W3C community group working to change that!
