I’m not going to tolerate a cult of reality deniers. Simply mentioning that most of company (bird) has been fired or quit is not political or biased.
If you’re going to continue hallucinogenic nonsense to everyone online, you’re going to find it increasingly difficult to exist

@aaronpk Ah. Weren't you the one who wrote it's PHP implementation? Or didn't you help with it?
I later rebuilt an PHP ActivityPub implementation as a separate service, API only. But I only use it for bots. I've been meaning to rip out my internal mess and switch over to that but I'm not excited about that project. -

@aaronpk speaking of indieauth, something that i mentioned to @DickHardt over IIW was that I really really really want to make my handle be @sgo.to.
Can't we come up with some form of convention that when you run into a @domain.example we do the indieauth thingy?
Ironically, the ActivityPub spec itself works just fine with plain domain usernames, nothing about it requires WebFinger or username based IDs. That was something I pushed hard for when we were working on the spec. But sadly Mastodon requires the @-@ syntax and WebFinger. -

Not for this *exact reason* but I have always been wary of "Sign in with X". I do not like having some other party own my users.

but yeah, this is why the most common next step after logging in is these services asking for your email so they have a recovery path -
Have you considered making your website directly accessible from Mastodon and others? Bridgy Fed seems like it would integrate nicely with your workflow, since you've already got most of the pieces set up, and you could choose to send individual posts to your Mastodon followers with a webmention.

Important note: you should NEVER do this to trailing slashes that exist in the path itself!
https://simonwillison.net/tags and https://simonwillison.net/tags/ are not technically the same URL
But... https://simonwillison.net/ and https://simonwillison.net ARE the same
And if you've decided not to display the https:// protocol, I think it looks prettier if you don't show the trailing slash either
(This is possibly the least important aesthetic preference anyone has ever expressed)

The model where everyone gets a new identity for every community they join (1) largely defeats the purpose of federation (2) does not scale as people have *many* communities of interest and (3) doesn't map to our natural conception of identity.
I *hope* it's fixable. May take some convincing of Eugen, which seems hard from this vantage point.
Thank you! I've been saying this forever.
I also agree that the instance timeline is a useful way for a community to come together, but I think that can be accomplished differently while everyone can still have their primary identity in one place.
And of course, someone should also be able to have multiple separate identities if they want to! -

@aaronpk the #raspberrypi does not actually have the horsepower to “Create multiple resolutions of your video and push different resolutions to different platforms”, right? It has trouble encodingone stream at 720p.
True, using a larger server would be better for that. I'll make a note.
