Well, the export was “successful” from @zachleat@mastodon.social

Only time will tell if the follower import works or not! 😅

    Aaron Parecki
I got a follow request from your new site if that's what was supposed to happen! I have no idea how follower import is supposed to work on Mastodon

I made a commitment to make my website a first-class participant in the fediverse this week. Which, of course, means everyone who uses Known (if they want). Let's see if I get there.

    This week(!) Best of luck!

I'm paying a company to run an instance for me

I 💯 agree Mastodon would be better if you could bring your own domain without running your own instance. I don't think that's technically infeasible but it looks like no-one has built a Mastodon server with virtual host support yet
    Aaron Parecki
They're not quite as easy as setting up a CNAME, but there are two options for that:

Glad to hear it! Hope I didn't ruin anyone's day with that!

@aaronpk So you must have gotten the dreaded "SSSS" on your boarding pass?

    Aaron Parecki
weirdly no, they use the new machines at PDX that only scan your ID, and look up the boarding pass from that. The first time it scanned my ID it made a weird sound, and the guy was like "are you flying today?" and then scanned it a second time and worked 🤷‍♂️

@aaronpk hey Aaron, was there an update to the live chat overlay? It’s broken for me for some reason, I just see a white block today instead of the comments. I used it yesterday and everything was fine 🥲
    Aaron Parecki
Sorry about that! Looks like my hosting provider had some issues earlier, but it should be back up now!

Ugh, I am sorry for the mess! It sounds like this would be sorted out best by our experts on our reservations team. You can reach them at 800-252-7522 or by texting 82008.

Thanks, but I think there's literally nothing anyone can do. I can't even get my boarding pass from SEA-LHR until the American gate agents arrive at the gate. At least the British Airways lounge was able to find my ticket by looking up my seat number.

Also the Alaska app shows I have a first class seat on the American Airlines leg, but it can't show my seat number, but also AA says I have premium economy. Clearly some wires were crossed.
    Aaron Parecki
Oh and more weirdness, I only have a printed boarding pass for the first leg, there's no boarding pass available in the Alaska app. I have to get the next boarding pass at the gate in Seattle.

I posted a question on both Twitter and Mastodon and for the first time ever, I've receive more engagement from #Mastodon, all with 1/50th of the follower count.

    Things are looking good...
    Aaron Parecki
I have found that the volume of responses on each platform *heavily* depends on the topic of my question

I need to figure out what shenanigans @TripActions pulled with my itinerary that caused the security check to reject my ID, and the @AlaskaAir lounge agent to have an extremely confused look on her face after scanning my boarding pass.

considering getting the aranet4 co2 sensor, for making smarter decisions about indoor exposure, etc. if you have one, has it been worth it?
    Aaron Parecki
I got one and it's been a lot of fun. Really interesting to see how quickly co2 builds up indoors with the windows closed. Also been bringing it with me in Lyfts and 😮

I think you just named your problem haha. I think it's important to switch things up and make vids you actually wanna make vs always running in the hamster wheel. when you make such a vid, you'll fall in love with editing again :)
    Aaron Parecki
you know what that is a very good point

Yes! I feel like for the last while it's always just felt like a chore, and I'm racing to the end so I can get the video done and published!

This is interesting: a proposed standard (RFC 7807) for how error messages in HTTP+JSON APIs should be structured, for example like this: https://twitter.com/httpapi_wg/status/1583141665639899136
    Aaron Parecki
this is a new draft, RFC number yet to be assigned, which would replace RFC7807

Apple should come down hard on this. This is an abuse of the notification system. https://gizmodo.com/uber-iphone-notification-ads-peloton-1849722398
    Aaron Parecki
I've seen so many apps do this and I don't understand why Apple doesn't shut them down immediately since it's a pretty blatant violation of their policies
