@aaronpk I really like this photo

    Aaron Parecki
Thanks! It's funny, it was just a quick snap while at the park, I didn't think too much about it, but I like it too!

Eaton (disclaimer: my employer) has smart circuit breakers that you can install on a standard BR panel. Advanced metering and remote operation support. No display though, everything is accessible through an app. https://www.eaton.com/us/en-us/catalog/electrical-circuit-protection/energy-management-circuit-breaker.html
    Aaron Parecki
oh heck yeah, and looks like there's a good API for it too! I'm going to look into this for my house build

Yes, the Dropbox "app key" is the "client ID" from the OAuth 2 spec, and is not considered secret. Here are several resources regarding OAuth 2 security and best practices that may be a helpful reference: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc6819

Yes. They’ve triggered a password reset email, and now want you to hand over the code so they can take over your account.
    Aaron Parecki
Exactly, which is why we need to make strong non-phishable MFA much more accessible and stop using SMS for this

Super weird thing I just realized. Because of the Earth's axis tilt, it gets dark in Portland and Auckland *simultaneously* but only in July. This is probably why it's been so hard for me to adjust to local time this trip.
    Aaron Parecki
In December, this line flips the other direction and we share a simultaneous sunset with the west coast of Mexico and west coast of South America.

    Or move the conference?
    Aaron Parecki
I mean, it's a locally organized conference with Kansas City in the name of the conference, so I'm not sure it would really be the same conference if it were moved to a different state 😅

    Aaron Parecki
Oh I would, but my return itinerary is so complicated that I don't want to risk anything by checking bags!

So glad to work for a company and CEO who aren't afraid of taking a public stance like this! Thank you Todd! https://twitter.com/toddmckinnon/status/1544046909307752448

Let's take this one step further. @okta is sponsoring a developer conference in Missouri next month, and I'm scheduled to give a talk there too.

Let's take the money we would have spent on booth swag and donate it to a local abortion fund. What do you say @toddmckinnon?

@aaronpk The shadows are what got me.

Also, for driving, I'll share an experience. In cities and towns, I found it easy to drive on the left, because all the signs and traffic kept meu honest. It was when I got out to a lonely highway with a simple stripe down the middle that I had trouble. There was nothing to distinguish it from a U.S. back country road, except those idiots a few miles ahead coming at me in my lane...oh, wait...

    Aaron Parecki
    oh that sounds very stressful!

Ug. After I did all those .ics imports 😭
    Aaron Parecki
rookie move. That's why you gotta subscribe to the ics feed instead of import 😉

But for real now I have to decide whether to go the full Mon-Fri (flying in on Sunday which I was really trying to not do this year) or join the OAuth one remotely 😬

The other day I added up that a “typical” video takes somewhere between 17 and 20 hours from start to finish.

Very few free products would make that amount of time worth it.
    Aaron Parecki
and even then, it's only worth it if the product is something you actually end up using regularly, otherwise it just sits on a shelf I guess?

Why is it that every time I go to the @NotionHQ app, it's signed out. Such an awful experience. What's everyone using for personal notes that is comparable to Notion?
    Aaron Parecki
Oh hey here's the last time they responded to me about it. It's still the exact same situation as 2 years ago tho https://twitter.com/notionhq/status/1229948659455803394

Hi, I'm Aaron Parecki, Director of Identity Standards at Okta, and co-founder of IndieWebCamp. I maintain oauth.net, write and consult about OAuth, and participate in the OAuth Working Group at the IETF. I also help people learn about video production and livestreaming. (detailed bio)

I've been tracking my location since 2008 and I wrote 100 songs in 100 days. I've spoken at conferences around the world about owning your data, OAuth, quantified self, and explained why R is a vowel. Read more.
