One year ago I started an experiment. I moved my live YouTube shows to a whole new channel, on the theory that the live shows on the main channel, which get great views while live but then very poor views after (which is understandable), were hurting the main channel. 1/🧵

what can happen though is a string of underperforming videos basically signals the algorithm that this channel just isn’t working. so a bunch of live streams could do that.

a string of SEO friendly videos that do very well could pop you out. don’t go for quantity.
    Aaron Parecki
I still believe that YouTube wouldn't be so ignorant to consider livestream performance the same as uploaded video performance. They even give you different metrics in the studio for each type so I don't think this is far fetched.

Ping @aaronpk, you were here recently, right?
    Aaron Parecki
I recently flew in to Austria and the only check for covid related docs was at the airport in the US before I boarded. Landing in Vienna was just a regular passport check.

So I assume that the good news then is that you got to go home, right? Again, great seeing you in Vienna!
    Aaron Parecki
Yes! The LHR-DFW flight was super delayed and I missed the DFW-PDX flight, so I had to stay overnight in Dallas and take another flight in the morning, but I eventually made it!

It was great seeing you in Vienna even if my conference experience was cut short!

Ah. I need to go back to following you on a more regular basis. Need to fix my site, though, first. then I will use the personal reader module for Drupal.

Yeah some of this drama I kept off twitter and posted only to my site. It's been a long week 😛

Dang. Either way, waiting around sucks. LOL
    Aaron Parecki
honestly a 30 minute delay is the least of my problems with this whole trip 😅

That's insane... Not common, though, is it? this is the first time I have ever heard this reason for a flight to be delayed. normally it's a mechanical problem in my personal experience.
    Aaron Parecki
It's a huge flight, LHR-DFW, so presumably they lose more money if they have to reroute people who miss it vs the delays

You can even add your own custom dictionary and it does and ~okay~ job at matching words in that dictionary. I've filled mine with things like HDMI, ATEM, YoloBox, etc, so I spend only a few minutes correcting the auto transcript per video.

oh no are you kidding me... British Airways just straight up cancelled the LHR-SFO flight I booked for today. Now it's 2:45am and I am stuck on hold waiting to change my flight.
    Aaron Parecki
They hung up and now won't pick up the phone "due to excessive call volume".

The website doesn't have a "change" button, only a "cancel" button. Guess I'm just booking a new ticket.

Any recommendations for video caption services? I’ve used Rev for years, but their prices have increased and I’ve had a few inaccurate files lately (normally they’re really good and there are a few people who genuinely “get”my goofy wordplay).

it's a sign I've been looking at too many seating charts for my upcoming flights that my first reaction to that was wow how is that plane so wide

@aaronpk did you see https://ask.metafilter.com/362108/Ambiguous-covid-tests ? (or maybe it is you)

    Aaron Parecki
not me. But I should also add these PCR tests are gargle tests rather than swab tests, and the antigen tests have been nose swab tests, so maybe that's a factor?

@aaronpk I am so surprised that you are still testing positive on an antigen test when your PCRs are coming back negative! That goes against the way I understand how those tests work. Doesn't an antigen test generally help you understand whether you are contagious right now?

    Aaron Parecki
That is also what I thought! yet here we are!

Hi, and thanks for this script as well as all the other tools you’ve created for the indieweb. Do you have an example micropub.json file I could use in order to try to manually generate one for use with my Foursquare account and website? I’ve installed the script and grabbed all the dependencies, and the user.json file creates just fine. But when I attempt to create the micropub.json file I get a message saying "Error fetching micropub configuration data". Thanks in advance.

    Aaron Parecki
I just made a little change to the code to fix that. It fetches the micropub config from the server and stores it in that file, and uses that to publish the photos. Without that file it will still work now, but you won't get the photos uploaded separately, they will link out to the Foursquare URLs.

Haven’t explored the Theta+ app, the Ricoh equivalent, but my impression is that it just does gimmicks rather than letting one edit the desired POV, speed etc… but I rrrrefuse to fall into the Adobe subscription trap.
    Aaron Parecki
This particular effect was all automatic, but the Insta360 app does let you do quite a bit of POV and reframing editing too
