Everyone likes to crap on Apple for their proprietary connectors, but can we talk about Garmin for few moments? Here’s 3 generations of Forerunner connectors. Sure, they got smaller, but all of them completely proprietary for the device model...

Fitbit is the same, ugh! In the before times I always wanted to have a dedicated charger at home and one for travel but could never bring myself to buy another charger that would be obsolete in a couple years

would depend on the quality - is it just a webcam, for example, or a DSLR quality image? - but several thousand dollars for the latter, at least.
    Aaron Parecki
in your case, is this for using with zoom/teams/webex/etc or live streaming or recording or some combination of the three?

speaking for myself, if my options were to make all those choices myself or buy a box where those choices were made for me by someone who actually knew what they were doing, i'd opt for the latter
    Aaron Parecki
    Yeah I hear you.

Interestingly, photo booths have a similar problem and have recently begun to productize similar kits:

you say that, but even within the camera/teleprompter/screen category there's so many different options. Do you want a DSLR? webcam? How about the screen, is it a generic monitor? iPad?
    Aaron Parecki
I could see putting together a kit with a USB webcam and small 7" monitor, but that's only going to be useful in certain cases too. Trying to make something packaged up with a DSLR is just not really going to be possible.

i get that lighting and so on is highly variable, but for camera/teleprompter/screen i would pay a lot of money to not have to not wire it together myself.

put it all in a box with an optional tripod and they’d sell.

I second the thoughts here and also vouch, definitely should chat with @aaronpk.

Speaking of which... I had the "meetup" recording pack pretty well organized (per many of Aaron's suggestions) and kept thinking, maybe this gets turned into a packaged option.
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah there's a lot to it, there isn't really a one size fits all which is likely why this isn't more packaged up. And even if there was, it'd be really expensive, likely way out of the price range of what people expect.

I got a youtube comment commending me on the content and precision of my videos, but he refuses to follow me because my icon has a mask on and I’m promoting something with such “low efficacy”. I just… I mean… there are SO MANY things wrong with that post. *sigh*
    Aaron Parecki
It's okay, youtube will follow you for him

That's ok Safari, use 220% of my CPU with no windows open. I totally wasn't using that CPU myself.

I was going to reply with something funny but there's something wrong with the markup of your feed and I couldn't respond in my reader, and by the time I found the permalink for this I forgot what I was going to say

@aaronpk Oh, very cool! Congratulations! That's huge. I'm working on a product myself these days, so I can appreciate the effort.

    Aaron Parecki
oh nice! Yeah it's a ton of effort, and the only reason I was able to pull this off is because I completely outsourced all the manufacturing and distribution of it!

I love the name of this! The PK1!

The search results are surprisingly easy to win! Also generic enough that I can use PK2 for a second version or for a completely different product later!

I wish @aaronpk 's Watchtower/Aperture/Monocle was much simpler to install for anyone:
    https://aaronparecki.com/2018/03/12/17/building-an-indieweb-reader
    Aaron Parecki
‪Me too! I've been thinking about rolling Watchtower into Aperture so it's just one app. Aperture is based on Laravel so there's plenty of tools and support for deploying that already. It's just a *lot* of work simplifying and documenting this stuff to make it easier for others.
