I was aware of the zero-day. Thought that the “showstopper bug” you alluded to was a second, new security issue.

    Thanks for the clarification.
    Aaron Parecki
Still bad, but not on the security side this time. Just a blocker for us to deploy a new feature.

    @aaronpk

    Hm,
I would go for a larger font size then.
Before your posts had about 80 characters per line which is still fine but 110 feels too wide for me …

    https://baymard.com/blog/line-length-readability

    Aaron Parecki
Yeah I was thinking about that, kinda forgot about it cause the current width isn't too bad but I'll probably bump it a little. I don't want to make it responsive sizing so I need to pick something that also isn't too big on a small screen.

You know how people say "my back hurts" and you think that'll never happen to you. Mm hmm. I'm them now.
    Aaron Parecki
One of the last times I packed a bag before ~this whole thing~ I threw my back out by literally putting a sock into my suitcase and I had to cancel that whole trip

"Hey you're getting views so why should it matter?"
I could make an entire thread on why this is so odd and messed up but my thoughts aren't straight right now.
It's like no rules apply when YouTube just gets their ad money.
    Aaron Parecki
wait what...this seems bad. Is this intentional?? @YouTube @ytcreators

With WWDC mostly wrapped up, it’s time to look to IndieWebCamp West this weekend. Virtual doors open via Zoom at 9am Pacific, then keynotes, demos, and afternoon sessions. https://indieweb.org/2020/West

Looking forward to seeing you there!

brave is a really interesting experiment and receiving money is cool! alas, it's very opaque and confusing in terms of why i received such money, from who, or who they got it from. feels a bit promotional at this stage. but, hey, a way for ad-free sites to pay the bills? cool.
    Aaron Parecki
While that's great for ad-free sites, it's a problem when Brave blocks the site's own ads and pays them in BAT instead. This wouldn't necessarily be bad, except they do this even if the website owner has no relationship with Brave or any knowledge of BAT or how to redeem it.

@manton I was disappointed to see that it’s a one-year lease. (I understand why they want to structure it this way, but it’s still disappointing.)

@aaronpk Ah, could be. I’m running 2013 Pro and Air, but each with 8GB of RAM, which I think makes a big difference in all regards (and longetivity). But they seem to be the lowest bar for Big Sur so I’ll have to make some decisions soon...

    Aaron Parecki
Yeah my 12" is an i7 with 16gb RAM so I would have thought it would be okay. It's been bad enough lately that I should probably just reinstall Catalina from scratch.

@aaronpk I just started using Syncthing on Catalina with no issues, plus now added a FreeBSD machine into the mix. I use LAN or port-forwarded WAN SFTP access to either laptop back home with Documents to access from iOS.

    Aaron Parecki
I think part of my mistake was doing an in-place upgrade instead of my normal wipe everything and install from scratch. Also it's a 2017 12" Macbook and it's really struggling to keep up these days.

Hi. Tailscale is built on WireGuard, which I would tend to call layer 3. Could you be more specific about what you're aiming to do?
    Aaron Parecki
I'm trying to create a "travel kit" which will connect back to a vpn server and make any device on the remote end available from the network on the vpn server end. Ideally with instructions that can be followed by someone with no networking experience.

In all the WWDC excitement, forgot to check whether Dropbox works before jumping to macOS 11. It doesn’t. I use Dropbox everywhere, so probably need to take a step back on this upgrade if they can’t address it soon.

    Aaron Parecki
Ugh yeah that happened to me using SyncThing when I upgraded to Catalina, still haven't figured out how to resolve it.
