I think it possible is non-visibility of anything physical. So on a phone call, it is as if the phone is acting as an intermediary and introducing a third party, that is you.

I believe “this is Amit” will sound equally absurd on a video call? Because my visibility makes me the first party?

    Aaron Parecki
That makes sense. But today I had 8 different people introduce themselves that way in an in-person group setting. I've never had that happen before!

@aaronpk My theory: saying “this is x” on the phone, is a way to link the voice speaking to the name/person. “This voice you hear is x”. In person, they see your face talking, so saying “I’m x” is linking your face to your name more than your voice to your name, so expanding the phone phrase in person to “this face is x” is why it sounds weird.

    Aaron Parecki
This makes sense, which is why I was so thrown off when 8 different people introduced themselves by saying "this is X" in person today.

Pretty funny when you're researching an old product, find an informative comment/review online… then realize you wrote it yourself years ago.

doesn't that mess with the cars ability to self steer?
    Aaron Parecki
There were no self-steering cars when I was little 😂

The joke was that the car was driving without touching the steering wheel cause all the kids could see from the back was the top of the wheel. I didn't really think about it but that dad joke doesn't work anymore.

Figured out a @Tesla hack to get around having to keep your hands on the wheel all the time in autopilot. My knees touching the steering wheel keep enough tension. Don’t worry I still pay full attention to what’s happening.

    Really, iOS? REALLY?!?!
    Aaron Parecki
I do not understand the heuristics iOS uses to choose which apps to offload. It never worked right for me so I ended up turning off that feature.

    @aaronpk Lulu?

    Aaron Parecki
That was my first try, but they only have a handful of fixed sizes. CreateSpace lets you do custom sizes but they don't do anything shorter than 4"

@aaronpk I don’t, but i am so curious, what are you trying to make?

    Aaron Parecki
I bought a thin planner in Japan last year and it's been amazing. It's out of pages this month, and I can't find anyone selling it online! I think I have to resort to making it myself!

Can you just get a regular sized book then cut it on a table saw?
    Aaron Parecki
Well that's a... I will admit I never even considered this option! But for real you might be on to something... I could print 4 copies stacked, then chop them up...

Now I just need to find someone with a giant paper cutter...

@aaronpk any plans/wished to add AP federation to Meetable?

    Aaron Parecki
If I hear enough feature requests for that, then possibly. It's a *lot* of additional code and complexity though, since in order to do that I would need to build in a whole bunch of state management.

I just deleted my last #Linode VPS. I've had at least one Linode continuously since August 2008.

Had a peek to see if I earned the 30-day photoblog pin, but not yet. Apparently I didn’t post a photo on Jan. 31, so my streak is at 29 days.

Day 30 is next, the last day of the challenge. The prompt is “vision.” Good luck! 📷 📌 😇

    Aaron Parecki
I didn't realize it was a 30 day challenge, and I was confused about how I was gonna post a photo on Feb 30th

I've been using these ones for a few years now and they've worked a treat. Not only do people remember you, but half the time ask about the other topics that they're also interested in; then you get to have a longer convo about things you especially love 😆

Was waiting for my Lyft. A man approached me, said if I needed a ride he had a car right there.

Fuck no dude. It gives me chills to think someone’s accepted that offer.
