yeah the JBOD is dangerous. One fails and you lose everything.
    Aaron Parecki
But it's fine cause you have backups of the backups right? 😇

For local backup, is there an app that will automatically span multiple drives? i.e. I have a 40TB RAID to backup locally to a series of drives… some 8TB, some 4TB, whatever. Don't want to segment the files on the main 40TB, just want backup to fill backup drive 1, then 2, etc
    Aaron Parecki
I would love to know if there is a good way to do this. I've done this before by turning a pile of external hard drives into a "JBOD RAID" with the built in mac Disk Utility. Not quite the same cause if you unplug one drive it all disappears.

IndieWebCamp Austin day 2 is winding down. I wrapped up my project to show replies on my blog posts and I’ll be demoing it to the group soon, with a blog post to follow later this week. Looking forward to seeing what other folks worked on!

    fixing reposts

    Aaron Parecki
I think the issue that was raised was less about the reposting of the full content and more about how that content was presented in the UI.

When I repost something, I very intentionally designed my reposts so that the post on my site would clearly look like it was written by the original author and not me. Specifically that means things like not having my name or photo anywhere near the content, and instead having the original author’s name and photo in the same place that my own photo would appear on my posts. You can see some examples at https://aaronparecki.com/reposts

Granted I don’t ever show the full text of a blog post I repost, but I do show the full contents of notes, regardless of their length. In practice this means I don’t have many occurrences of large amounts of copied text. If I were to repost a blog post, it would show only the blog post title on my site. It’s debatable whether that’s a “real” repost, but I’m happy with that decision.

In any case, I still think the more important issue here is how the repost is presented rather than whether or not a repost should be allowed in the first place.

I even just finished a shot list. 🤯

But it did take almost double the time, hopefully it will cut a large chunk of time out of filming a bunch of random stuff and editing it together.
    Aaron Parecki
so curious to hear how this works out! I did find that writing an actual script instead of just bullet points made me say words better and resulted less crap I had to cut out later.

Is it just me or does the automatic timezone detection in iOS just not work anymore?

Last three trips I’ve taken I’ve had to set it myself.

    Aaron Parecki
I gave up on it a while ago because it turns out traveling this much I have a very specific time during the flight I like to change the timezone, and it was frequently changing it way too late, like hours after I landed.

    Aaron Parecki
I do too, and it involves being on planes almost every week, so it's a reeeaaaall struggle to make any time to shoot and edit!

Video idea for both of you: balancing youtube with a full time job? 😇

I'm charging the OEM battery now, but I've never had this problem before. Its really weird and happened with two separate batteries.
    Aaron Parecki
If they're not brand new third party batteries, it could be they are lower quality and just died out faster than OEM batteries do. That would cause them to be unable to deliver power at the rate it expects, and then it browns out when it tries to record.

No, its an off brand battery and I think that might be the problem. My OEM battery is dead right now though so I can't check.
    Aaron Parecki
I was underpowering my GH5S with a USB dummy battery and it would shut off when I hit record. I used a bigger power supply and that fixed it.

implicit is good to go ..query on password - If password flow is deprecated then how we achieve those use cases which this was addressing..like migration of legacy clients..which flow we can use for those use cases
    Aaron Parecki
If you're really using the password grant for migration, you can always define your own extension to enable that same migration.

In our experience, most implementations did not use it for migrations, and instead made new implementations prompting the user for their password.

    @aaronpk
I actually labbed this type of environment for release testing at a prior employer. Drove the devs nuts, but reminding them they were building this app for their users in mobile environments was important.

And this made our clients very very happy. It also became a key talking point for corporate sales of our service.
